GLOBALWARMING
By Maggie & Jeremy
The Greenhouse Effect is when gases in the atmosphere reflect the sun’s radiation back onto earth
Climate Change is a significant and lasting change in the weather patterns over periods ranging from decades to millions of years
Global Warming is the gradual increase of the world’s average temperature, believed to be primarily caused by humans
What is the Greenhouse Effect? Climate Change?
Global Warming?
How They Go Together…
• Greenhouse gases keep heat and energy in the atmosphere, leading to global warming (rising of global temperature)
• This change in temperature leads to climate changes
Primary Causes of Global Warming:
• The build up of CO2 in our atmosphere- reflects radiation back to Earth
• Excessive greenhouse gases in our atmosphere from cars, power plants, and heating our homes with oil and natural gases
Consequences of Global Warming o Increased risk of flash floodso Many foods will no longer be available (Ex: nuts, fruits,
vegetables…) o Hot, dry, weather leading to wildfires o Health: Heat waveso Wildlife: losing many species such as polar bearso Loss of many glacierso Rising sea levelso Increasing amounts of precipitationo Stronger hurricanes and other natural eventso Changing ecosystems
The Impact on the Economy: • Predictions in China show that agricultural output will decrease by 37% in the next 50 years
•The UN predicts Global Warming will cost China 7.8 billion dollars
•Longer summers have led to a longer allergy season and increased health care costs for asthma and people who suffer from allergies
•Increased air pollution kills 1,000 U.S residents every 1°C increase in temperature
How to fight Global Warming:
• Reduce, Reuse, Recycle • Use less heat and air
conditioning • Drive less and drive smart • Buy energy efficient
products• Plant a tree• EDUCATE OTHERS!
• Sunspots are the cause of the earth’s rising temperature (TRUE)
•Efforts by state governments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions are even more expensive and are threatening to bust state budgets (CONTROVERSIAL)
•Human activities do not disrupt the Earth (FALSE)
Argument(s) against Global
Warming
OUR OPINIONS:• Humans and natural causes BOTH have an effect
•Sunspots, El Nino=natural causes
•Human CO2 emissions, tar and gas buildup from factories=Humans
•Hopefully we can all work together to make a difference and help STOP Global Warming
