Windows Phone Statistics Report

This month sees a continuation of the trend of recent months as the Microsoft made Lumias (the 535, 640 and 435) having the largest growth and while it’s popularity continues to decline, the 520 is still the most popular device in use worldwide.

This is also the first month where the 950 and 950XL have shown up in our stats after going on sale. Globally the 950 is more popular than the 950XL but this is not the case in all countries.

In addition to the US we look in detail at the devices in use in the UK, France, Russia, Australia and India.

Data Source

This report is based on data collected from 5,222 Windows Phone apps runningAdDuplex SDK v.2 (and higher). The raw data analyzed was collected over the day ofDecember 15th, 2015 (UTC time) unless otherwise stated.

We have made every attempt to consolidate different reported phone model namesunder their canonical retail model names, but it is possible that some of the rare modelname variations were not accounted for.

AdDuplex is the largest cross-promotion network for Windows Phone and Windows Store apps and games empowering developers and publishers to promote their apps for free by helping each other. AdDuplex was established in January 2011 in Vilnius, Lithuania. As of December 2015, more than 10,000 apps actively use AdDuplex to gain more visibility.

The biggest changes this month is the growth of Lumia 640 which is up 0.7%.There are other increases for the 535 (0.6%) and the 640XL (0.3%)The 520 remains the most popular device globally but it’s prevalence continues to decline and this month it’s down another 0.6%.There are also decreases in market share for the 630 (0.3%) and the “other” category (0.5%)

OS Versions – Worldwide December 15th, AdDuplex

With sales of the 950, 950XL and 550 devices contributing to this chart for the first time, Windows 10 Mobile is the only OS growing in market share and expected to be more popular than WP8.0 by next month.

The only change this month is the 435 gaining 0.8% share from last month to enter the top ten in seventh place.The biggest change is for the 640 which has gained 2.0% since last month.The biggest loss is for the 635 which has lost another 0.8%

Outside the top ten the 950 is more than twice as popular as the 950XL.

Lots has changed in the three months since we last looked at the UK

The 635 is still the most popular device and has increased it’s share by 0.9%Second and fourth place devices have switched with the 535 gaining 2.4% and the, once dominant, 520 down 2.5%

The biggest other percentage changes are for the 640 (up 2.2% and five places), the 435 (up 1.3%) and the 625 (down 1.3%).

Outside the top ten, the 950XL is proving more popular than the 950.

Since August there have been no new entries in the top ten but the 640 has increased in position by four places and 4.0% in market share.

Other big changes are:635 + 0.9%520 - 3.3%535 + 2.2%625 - 1.9%1320 - 1.4%530 - 1.7%

The “other” group has grown by 2.1% and includes the 950 and 950XL with the former proving more popular.

Since we looked at Russia back in October the 535 is still on top and has continued to gain share increasing by 0.8%.

The biggest gain is for the 640 which hits up 1.0%.The biggest loss is for the “Other” group which is down 1.2%

There’s also a new entry in the top ten as the 435 has gained 0.7% and is now the seventh most popular device in use.

Russia was the first country to start selling Lumia 550 and it is more popular than both 950 and 950 XL at the moment.

The 730 and 540 have swapped positions, as have the 640XL and the 625, but otherwise the chart looks the same as it did to months ago.

Lots of big changes in these figures. The most notable of which is the 11.3% share increase for the 532.

Within the “other” category the 950XL is more than twice as popular as the 950.

• We continue to see RM-115[x] phones from Microsoft which are 720p 5” devices. However there aren’t that many of them, so it doesn’t look like something to be released in the near future.

• Additionally we’ve come across a few instances of RM-1160/1162 which, from the limited data we have seen, appears to be a 768x1280 5.4” device.

• Another interesting item we’ve seen only once for now is something called LG V496. If you look this model up it appears to be a 8.0” Android tablet. Could this be the first Windows 10 Mobile tablet?

• Also we see quite a lot of Acer S58xWWxGEN1. This one appears with 2 screen resolutions in our logs – 1080p and 768x1280. Both pointing to the same 5.2” screen. Is this that Continuum phone they’ve shown at IFA?

• HP seems to be testing a 768x1280 5.4” phone called Falcon.• As for Windows 10 upgrades for existing non-Microsoft devices, we see a lot of promising data:

there are phones being tested from basically every manufacturer out there. Including HTC One M8 and 8X, Samsung ATIV S and ATIV SE, LG Lancet, HUAWEI Ascend W1 and W2 and others.
