World Cup Effect •  The plethora of slick, expensively-produced ads

targeted at football fans during the tournament has lead to a huge spike in mentions of car brands in particular.

•  Nike and Adidas have also been battling it out for attention on Twitter. Both rose far up the list but Nike, in the UK at least, remains dominant.

Netflix can’t be caged

The video streaming service made it into the top 10 for the first time in June.

The second series of hit show Orange is the New Black was hotly anticipated on social media and has been eagerly devoured by binging

fans this month.

Netflix also made the news in the States when they accused service providers of slowing down streaming speeds in order to charge higher

prices for upgraded bandwidth.
