Hello. During my phone interview with Roland, he said one of the things you guys struggled with was keeping up with new apps and social platforms. He also mentioned that if I were to get the internship, I could be working on Bonnaroo.
After looking at Bonnaroo’s current platforms and the type of content shared, I thought I’d introduce you to an app you might have overlooked.
PHHHOTO.

Pronounced ‘photo’, PHHHOTO is constantly being called the next generation of photography-based social networking.
Instead of posting still shots of your day, you create moving images to share with the world.

01. When you open the app, you’re welcomed by your main feed, filled with posts of the people you follow.
02. There’s a search to discover users that range from your contacts and social connections to celebrities.

03. The #WOW page is where the staff showcase unbelievably creative PHHHOTOs.

05. Once you’re happy, you can share your GIF across Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Tumblr.
06. You can view your PHHHOTOs either on your feed or on your profile, which you can access via app or mobile.

Instagram recently announced the release of their gif app, Boomerang.
Despite their similarities, PHHHOTO and Boomerang have completely different dynamics in the aesthetic and in demographics.

PHHHOTO has been having incredible success since they launched and the likelihood of Boomerang taking consumers from PHHHOTO is low.
Not only are the type of people on Instagram vs PHHHOTO entirely different, it probably won’t be successful because people on Instagram want to be on Instagram, not Boomerang.

PHHHOTO began at SXSW in 2013 as an iPad photobooth, set up for private events and parties.
With over 225K in funding, led by Diplo, the app launched August 2014 and PHHHOTO has since grown to one million users with a total of ten million PHHHOTOs.
Users spend 7 minutes 11 seconds per session and 25% of users spend an hour per week on PHHHOTO.

Typical User: High school and college students, millennials and young adults, professionals in creative industries: photographers, musicians, dancers, filmmakers.
Celebrity Users: Cole Sprouse, Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry, Mark Zuckerberg, Skrillex, Joe Jonas, etc.

These 7-minute PHHHOTO users are not your typical folks. They view life from a different perspective and are more than happy about it. They like being part of a niche. They enjoy feeling special and being in a crowd that understands and celebrates their tastes.
To me, this feeling is ver similar to being a Bonnaroovian.
Someone going to Coachella may be there just for the Insta pic. A Bonnarovian is the guy who doesn’t need to tell you he’s cool — he has his friends to do that.
Coachella has fashion blogs and mega photo albums. Bonnaroo has an irreplaceable experience.

From announcing they were attending Bonnaroo, to showing iconic places, and musical acts, PHHHOTO has already been used by plenty of Bonnaroovians.

Let’s give the people what they want
PHHHOTO attracts an audience that no other platform can – people that are actively searching for an authentic experience.
They’re not fooled by gimmicks and I can’t imagine a better experience than Bonnaroo to offer. With PHHHOTO people will view an even more immersive experience that will make any music and art lover dying to join the community.
Let’s be sure we’re waiting for them with open arms.
