What is Twitter?

• One of the largest social media websites

• 250 million users, 500 million tweets daily

• Streaming information network

• 140 character messages called tweets

• Popular with teens and young adults and men

Know the lingo

Tweet – a message that may contain links, photos, videos & up to

140 characters of text.

Retweets – a tweet that you share with your followers

@mentions – tag someone in a tweet using the @ symbol and

the username (@username).

Reply – a response to a tweet (automatically creates an

@mention).

Favorite – Tap the star icon under a tweet to favorite. This

indicates that you like the tweet.

When you follow a new account or like and comment on a photo, it will show that activity in your followers’ activity tabs.

This can potentially increase the audience of that account and prompt them to follow the account and like or comment on the same photos!

Take area photos or any photo relevant to the ACC Byway, post and tag the account!

When you tag an account on Instagram, it opens that post up to engagement and links directly back to the tagged account. Engagement such as likes and comments appear in the account followers’ activity tabs.

This also helps increase the tagged account’s audience on Instagram!

Don’t forget to use approved hashtags and other relevant hashtags when you post your photos.

Tapping a hashtag on Instagram will show you a stream of all photos and videos people have uploaded with that hashtag.

• Be accurate: When posting about events, dates & details, make sure you are giving the most accurate information possible.

• Respect copyright and trademark laws: If you are posting a photo that you did not take, make sure you have permission to do so.

• Maintain the privacy of others: Don’t post photos or personal information of employees or other people without permission.

• Do not reveal confidential information! • Be respectful and tolerant: Whether speaking on behalf

of Alabama’s Coastal Connection or not, avoid posting material that could be seen as inappropriate, demeaning, or offensive.

photography (and video) as well as stakeholder contributions.

GMS will load, organize and tag images within a shared Flickr library to make

them easy for you find and download.

• Go for fun, interesting, beautiful but leave room for a little guessing.

• Fans do not expect perfection, but there is an expectation for higher

resolution imagery. DSLRs are great for high resolution, planned shoots,

but aren’t nearly as handy as your mobile device.

• Compose your shots.

– Unless you’re shooting landscapes, be sure to frame up your subject

as closely as possible.

– Pay attention to what is behind your subject

• Think “engagement.”

Load your images to the ACC Byway Flickr library on your desktop.

Desktop uploads:

• Log in to Flickr (Important! Be sure to log out of any existing Flickr/Yahoo accounts).

• Select Images

• Edit (rotate, zoom, etc.)

• Tell the story behind your photo:

– Title

– Description

• Organize for easy reference and to help others find your images:

– Tag(s)

– Album(s) - Each stakeholder will have their own album to load to.

Bottom Line - Video is the most engaging and compelling form of content for social

media users.

Video content will come from three different resources:

• ACC-generated video (GMS will produce)

• Stakeholder-generated video

– Shared via:

• Stakeholder YouTube links (or embed codes)

• Upload to Byway Flickr library

• User-generated (photo/video contests)

– In Flickr for stakeholder use

expectation for higher

resolution video, but expensive

video equipment is not

required.

• Pull out your mobile device.

• Hold your device horizontally to film landscape.

• Avoid using your zoom.

• Pay close attention to what you are filming in the background.

• Avoid shakiness.
