Home interiors become lively, blithe, and ethereal with natural light. During different phases of
the day, the light from the sun changes in intensity, which in turn creates a variety of aesthetic
effects on the interiors.
Natural lighting can also help reduce energy bills by keeping homeowners from using lights
during the day or using heaters and electric warmers during cold seasons. More importantly,
sunlight has a number of health benefits. Studies even show that sunlight makes people happy
and helps combat depression.
There are many ways people can utilise natural light in their homes. Here are some of them:
The Windows
Homeowners who want to make them most of natural light should mind the
orientation of their home in reference to the movement of the sun. One easy way to
do this by changing the locations of the windows.
For those who want minimum amount of light, it’s ideal to put windows in the north
and south sides of the home. To increase the amount of light coming in, they must
install windows on the east and west wings. Homeowners should not forget the size
of the window, the type of glass they will use and the number of shutters if they want
to control the glare and heat more efficiently.

The Walls
The interior surfaces can reflect the light coming in, so homeowners should plan their paint
color or wallpaper well. When it comes to these aspects, it’s advisable to go for bright or
neutral colours. These shades will help make the room appear spacious than it actually is in
combination with the light.
Homeowners should not forget other considerations. For those who aim to make their room
appear bigger, mirrors will do the trick. If there are areas inside their homes where windows
are difficult to build, a skylight will allow the light to come in.
