Cross media convergence

The term convergence is when two or more technologies come together to create a new technology, digital technology is allowing media to converge into other technologies for example video game devices provide more entertainment then bargained for.

Some technologies that are under convergence are devices like computers, mobile devices and many more. These are the main technologies as they are commonly used by the public

An example of this would be the ps3 where people play games but they can also access the internet and watch movies or listen to music on the devise too. This is great because they are getting much more then they bargained for, its important as

Synergy is the release of two or more products for the purpose of creating profit. Synergy is most often used by big companies wishing to work alongside another company to promote their products through different media.

Synergy is mainly used by companies who are diverse as in they own many different companies theses companies are called conglomerates, they can afford to do this an example of this would be Sony or warner bros.

Examples of synergy is with my company warner bros, seeing as how they own a recording company they released a song by Ed sheeranfor the movie as well as releasing a soundtrack.

Conglamorants is a big company that branches out with other smaller companies that are supported by the bigger company and example of this is warner bros.

Marketing

synergy allows space for marketing, when movies are marketed they tend to make more profit as it will be heard about seeing as how the company they are marketing will be a big company such a warner bros or Sony, they will make more money

With convergence, marketing a product will be on a grander scale because, it will be easier to market just the one product that supplies many things rather then having to market all of them.

In my case study marketing was used as the tie in with Lego as they made Lego toys of the characters from The Hobbit.

Convergence was used in The Hobbit the desolation of smaug

the company got the recording studio and got Ed Sheeran to sing a song related to the movie which was then played at the end of the movie, getting Ed Sheeran to sing the song was a good way of promoting the movie because is extremely popular. The movie was a book before it was released as a movie, and followed after the lord of the rings trilogy which was hugely popular and successful.

With my independent film they had to stick to the traditional forms of advertising as they have a budget to stick to, there wasn’t too much marketing involved. However the movie was a play called ‘posh’, and wasn’t too successful but for a independent British company it didn’t do to bad.
