The Ashaninka use the Cushma. This is a

traditional dress of a long piece of cloth with a

hole in the center for the head. It is worn from

front to back for men, and side to side for women.

It binds to the sides with vertical lines for men

and horizontal lines for women. Cushma are

made of dyed cotton and adorned with feathers

and beads. The Cushma Asháninka are worn

every day. Accessories include lip pins,

necklaces, bracelets, earrings, feather

headdresses, and arm and leg bands. We also

paint our bodies and faces as a symbol of good

friends to all.

“The Ashaninka people are an ethnic group

belonging to the Amazonian family. They are also

called ARAWAK.”
