Theft Crimes
Thousands of burglaries, robberies, larcenies, and vehicle thefts are committedacross Boston every year. With prosecutors who are primed to crack down onthese charges, you need a legal advocate in your corner who has the provenexperience to combat the accusations against you.
What is a theft crime? Any behavior that counts as taking away someone else’sproperty, without their permission, and with the intent to keep the owner fromaccessing their property. A theft crime will be a misdemeanor only if it involvesproperty that is valued below $250 – any theft involving that amount or higher istreated as a felony. The same holds true for attempted thefts.
My case experience extends to the following theft types:
Burglary:Â This charge covers breaking and entering of any building, not just ahome, at any time with the intent of committing a felony. Burglary, or attemptedburglary, can be charged as a misdemeanor or a felony.
Larceny over $250:Â Larceny is simply another word for theft. Larceny can becommitted by check, stealing, false pretenses, embezzlement, taking a motorvehicle, and other means.
Robbery:Â In Massachusetts, this is defined as taking property from anotherperson by violence or intimidation. Aggravated robbery charges occur when aperson inflicts bodily harm on another while committing robbery.
Shoplifting:Â This is the act of taking merchandise away from a store withoutpaying for it. You could face this accusation for concealing merchandise,transferring merchandise into another container, removing a shopping cart from astore premises, and for removing or switching labels or price tags. Shopliftingcan be charged as larceny when the value of stolen goods exceeds $100.
