DESCRIPTION

Presentation by Neil Crafford of Crafford and Crafford Architects. CPFP project funded by Department of Trade and Industry, South Africa aimed at facilitating feasibilty studies that will lead to high impact projects being identified and actioned. The focus of the intervention is to identify development opportunities in the 11 National Parks under the custodianship of the Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority. A key outcome of the process is to package projects in a way that the Authority can raise funding for some or all of the identified opportunities. Another feature of the study is to identify suitable green technology applications, infrastructure shortfalls and identify additional tourism products that could be developed.

The primary objectives of the programme is to facilitate feasibility studies that are likely to lead to high-impact projects which will stimulate value-adding economic activities in South Africa as this will have greater impact on the country’s industrial policy objectives

Secondary objectives:•Attracting high levels of domestic and foreign investments;•Strengthening international competitiveness of South African capital goods sector;•Creating sustainable jobs in South Africa;•Creating sustainable jobs in South Africa;•Creating a long-term demand for South African capital goods and services;•Stimulating project development in Africa and in particular the Southern African Development Community (SADC)•Stimulating upstream and downstream linkages and development with SMMEs and BEE companies

BenefitsBenefitsThe grant is capped at R8 million to a maximum of 50% of the total costs of the feasibility study for projects outside Africa and 55% of the total costs of the feasibility study for projects in Africa

• The ZPWMA operates under an Act of Parliament, the Parks and Wildlife Act of 1975.

• The Authority manages one of the largest estates in the country, about 5 million hectares of land or 13% of y g g yZimbabwe’s total land area.

•The Authority manages its own income and expenses

• The Authority has a mandate to manage the entire wildlife population of Zimbabwe, whether on private or communal land.

• In contrast to the general experience in Africa, Zimbabwe’s record of wildlife conservation is widely regarded as i i A i di t f thi th t h t bl i i l ti f l i limpressive. As an indicator of this success, the country has a stable or rising population of many larger animals.

The Authority manages: • 11 National Parks • 11 Recreational Parks• 11 Recreational Parks• 4 Botanical Gardens or Reserves • 9 Safari Areas• 3 Sanctuaries.

Is to produce a bankable document that will empower the client:

• To upgrade the existing tourism assets.

• To introduce operational efficiencies through the introduction of green technology solutions.

• To identify additional sources of income/activities that will ensure overall financial sustainability of the Parksof the Parks.

• To provide the client with a suite of interrelated commercial solutions with which funding can be sourced from the Government and investorssourced from the Government and investors.

All of the above will be informed by a suite of Baseline Studies to be conducted in all the National Parks.National Parks.
