Media EvaluationQuestion 4

Question 4Who would be audience for

your media product?

The audience I have chosen for my media product was chosen by using a mixture of interviews and a survey which enabled me some results to put together to create my reader profile.

Question 4

For my survey I asked the audience various questions to help me create a magazine to satisfy the majorities needs.

Finding out the age of the audience allowed me to create a magazine for the majority age group which in my case were the ages of 15-24. Due to the age range of the majority I made my magazine suit this by using different methods such as using a considerably larger amount of images as this appeals to younger audiences. I have also used incentives which again will appeal to that target audience.

Question 4

Finding out the most enjoyed genre was also very important for me to create my magazine so I could create magazine that suited the majorities music taste. My results showed that the majority of people like rock music which is how I picked the genre for my magazine.

For the gender question I found that the group were pretty much split half male and half female, this meant the kind of adverts and articles that are included in my magazine needed to be things that will appeal to both genders. This question was important as it allowed me to be aware to focus on the genre of the music people are interested in rather than the gender.

Question 4

Question 4

After finding out the most common age group was 15-24 it was no shock when the average amount they would spend on a magazine was considerably low, this will be due to the fact that most 15-24 year old are students hence spending very little. This question allowed me to pick a suitable price for my magazine that the audience will be satisfied with. Low pricing will appeal to my audience and satisfy them.

Asking the two people about whether they went to any social event made it clear to me that many people of the ages of 15-24 go to festivals. One of the interviewees also listened to a large range of rock music when asked the album question which meant she would fit into the category I was aiming for. This encouraged me to incorporated festivals into my magazine as it clearly interested those of the 15-24 age range and also those who listen to rock music.

Question 4My interview helped me get more personal, detailed and accurate answers from people that fit into the age category of my magazine and enabled me to further my research.

Question 4

Finally after analysing my results from the survey and the interviews I managed to come up with a Reader Profile with an Editorial and Reader Lifestyle to specifically let the public know who the magazine is aimed at.

I am creating a new magazine called Bzzurkk! to be published on a fortnightly basis. The name comes from the noise of plugging in an electric guitar. I am aiming at rock music fans, ranging from pop rock to metal rock, hence the music related name and the exclamation mark, similar style to the Kerrang! magazine. The target audience I am aiming for are from the ages of 15 – 24 which is a very popular target age across the magazine industry and aim to please both Males and Females equally. The magazine will be published on a monthly basis due to the result collected from my survey; many people said they rarely buy music magazines so publishing weekly would be ridiculous however publishing month is long enough for them to want to read the next issue but short enough to keep up with the vast movement of the times. The magazine will only cost £1.50 which is set to fit with the target audience, because the majority of people in that age group will be students, they won’t have the money to spend £4.00 on a magazine hence selling ours at 1.50 which is a reasonable price. Also will persuade viewers to buy the magazine every two weeks as it’s cheap so they can afford to buy each issue.
