Dentures are widely used to replace missing tooth or teeth in Boynton Beach FL dental clinics. There are
two types of dentures, complete (conventional or immediate) and partial (bridges).
Complete dentures consist of a removable frame or plate that holds artificial teeth. It is made once the
affected teeth have been removed and the gums are already healing.
Conventional dentures take time to be made. The patient can readily use it approximately 10 weeks from
the moment the teeth have been removed.
Immediate dentures are the ones molded as soon as the affected teeth are removed.
The patient can then wear it immediately before the gums start its healing process.
The problem with this is it would require a lot of adjustments as oral bones and gums decrease its size
over time once teeth are pulled out.
That is why immediate dentures are considered just as a temporary solution while waiting for the conventional dentures to become available.
Partial dentures are also called bridges. This can be either removable or fixed.
The removable one is used when the patient has one or more remaining teeth in the upper or lower jaw.
It consists of a plastic base, which is usually pink, holding the artificial teeth.
The fixed partial denture, on the other hand, can replace one or more missing natural teeth by placing crowns on the teeth at the sides of the missing tooth
space and attaching the artificial tooth to them.
This bridge is cemented in place.
If you have either a complete or partial denture, it is important that you clean it properly every day.
Just like natural teeth, dentures can deteriorate and cause problems when not taken care of and
maintained.
