Today’s patient engagement isn’t the end-game because data from disparate systems is in silos and difficult for patients to access.

Today’s tools deliver a monologue of data flow “to” the patient.

Very few solutions are able to receive data “from” patients.

Providers must find better ways to deliver the tools patients need to become active in their own healthcare.

• Be presented in a simple, clear, and actionable way

• Enable appropriate patient generated data to have a clear pathway back to providers

A recent run-in with my 2-year-old Lab mix named George and a sidewalk sent me to the local ED with a separated shoulder.

A patient portal is defined as a secure website giving patients 24/7 access to their personal health information.

The emergency department and orthopedist’s office separately emailed me instructions on how to enroll in their patient portals, and yet, like many patients, I did nothing with them.
