The Tooth Fairy 101 Community Education Kit is an interactive tool for children and youth to learn about the daily essentials of proper dental care. Youth of all ages, can benefit from lessons on brushing, flossing, and tooth-friendly nutritional choices. An acid mouth lesson was also shared with the children to enforce the importance of not drinking juice in a sippy cup and not drinking lots of pop.

The Tooth Fairy 101 Community Education Kit includes a double-sided magnetic display board, magnets, giant toothbrush, laminates, activities and a 12-lesson bi-lingual curriculum. Of the 12 lessons, four were shared with the students. The combination of tooth friendly magnets, which do not stick to the board and not tooth friendly food magnets which do stick to the board provide the students with a wonderful visual aid to help show which foods are more healthy for their teeth.

•The kit enables all children to grasp the concept of how cavities are caused

•ESL students found the concepts easy to follow

Presentation Notes
The kit enables all children to grasp the concept of how cavities are caused. Students who speak English as a second language also found it very easy to follow along with the stimulation of a visual aid. The kit also provides a great way to get the children to interact with one another because of the use of the visual aid.

Integrating the Toothfairy101 Educational Kit

was an exciting project

Presenter
Presentation Notes
Implementing the Toothfairy101 Educational Kit program, was an exciting project that the Saskatoon Schools embraced enthusiastically. A majority of the teachers were thrilled to be able to give their students a chance to participate in such a wonderful learning opportunity. I would like to extend a special Thank You to Julie Laberge-Lalonde for going above and beyond her position as the Saskatoon Health Regions Separate School Oral Health Educator. Julie helped me get this dental project off the ground as she made all the initial contact with the schools principals and literally got me in the door!
