REGULATION OF SYNTHESIS

•Concentration of calcitriol is regulated by plasma levels of calcium & phosphate

• Low plasma phosphate increases activity of calcidiol 1-hydroxylase – DIRECT

• Low plasma calcium enhances parathyroid hormone production which in turn activates 1-hydroxylase - INDIRECT
