•There are three main types of teen eating disorders. These include Anorexia, Bulimia and Binge Eating.•While Anorexia involves the child refusing to eat food, Bulimia involves purging of food by vomiting. And, this is done because the kid does not want to put on weight.•Another reason for the eating disorder is the teenage substance abuse. The teens get attracted to the drugs, like alcohol, marijuana, cigarettes, heroin, cocaine, etc. •If the kids have a lower self esteem, they are tending to get depressed, have anxiety problems, and face eating disorders. Also, they get more tempted towards drugs.

•For treating the teenage substance abuse and the teen eating disorders, the parents need to monitor the kids regularly. There should be more of interaction and communication between the teens and the parents.•Some amount of counselling should be provided to the kids, so that they become more confident and have an improved self-esteem.•And, if nothing works, visit a doctor immediately. Treatment from the doctor will help in restoring the eating habits in the kid, and the kid will become healthy.
