Tooth Anatomy

Enamel: The tooth enamel is the visible part of the tooth above the gum line. This is an extremely hard substance that is utilized in chewing and serves to protect the rest of the tooth from damage.

Dentin: Dentin provides the form of the tooth. It supports the exposed enamel while providing the root, the part of the tooth under the gum line, with structure.

Dental Pulp: This is the tissue inside the dentin that harbors blood vessels and nerves. It is a soft substance and is the innermost part of the tooth.

Cementum: Cementum serves a similar protective function as the enamel, but below the gum line. It is an extremely hard substance and is attached to the jawbone.
