DESCRIPTION
Handicap International works alongside people with disabilities and vulnerable populations, taking action and bearing witness in order to respond to their essential needs, improve their living conditions and promote respect for their dignity and fundamental rights. Together with local partners, Handicap International develops programs in health and rehabilitation and social and economic integration. The organization operates in 63 countries and advocates for the universal recognition of the rights of the disabled. It was co-recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize in 1997 in recognition of its campaign to ban landmines.

INTERNATIONAL EXPERTISE
Handicap International's expertise is called upon regularly by international bodies, such as the World Health Organization, United Nations, UNICEF and U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees The organization holds consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC)
