MORAYMA REYES THE BATTLE FOR STEM CELL RESEARCH

Stem cell research is one of the most exciting and potentially groundbreaking fields currently being developed in medical research. It is also a heavily controversial one that has garnered much negative feedback within the public community, which does not fully understand this relatively new field of study

The primary goal of stem cell research is to look into regenerative medicine treatments, which would have a major impact on a variety of diseases. It is an “organic” treatment in the sense that stem cells are naturally occurring in the human body, as opposed to many of the synthetic treatments that western medicine has been criticized for using.

This is a cause that Morayma Reyes Gil, M.D., Ph.D., cares strongly about as a researcher. Stem cells are an important part of her professional career as a medical researcher, but her passion for this area of science goes much deeper than that. “For scientists like myself, there are few more exciting medical advancements being made in the medical research fields,” said Dr. Reyes in a recent article.

Dr. Morayma Reyes, assistant professor of the Department of Pathology at the University of Washington, will continue to pursue her passion for stem cells in the hopes of developing cures for some of the world’s most debilitating diseases, including multiple sclerosis and muscular dystrophy.
