Easter Quiz
Well what a fun time was had at the Easter Quiz which was held in Hesketh
Park. The weather was kind to us and everyone enjoyed the quiz, socialising and
of course the Easter eggs! Thank you to everyone that attended it really was a
fun day.
June, fearlessly, checking the answers and of course, the Eggs!
London
Two members of our group recently went along to
The Big Lobby in London. This trip not only involved
either swopping shifts or giving up a day’s holiday but
also leaving very early in the morning so that they
could be in London in time to attend. I think you will
all agree with me that we are very grateful for their
dedication to raising our group’s profile and the
tireless work that is done to try to ensure better
provisions for our children. (Read what they had to
say about the day and meeting John Pugh, further on
in this newsletter.)Thank you to Jackie and Angie B
from our group.
London The Big Lobby
Jackie and I set off for London armed and ready with our letter and points for
discussion with our MP, John Pugh. After a fast super sonic train journey we
arrived in Euston and I soon learnt the etiquette of the London underground!!
Thank goodness Jackie knew what to do and where to go! We were welcomed at
the liberal club by the DUK team who showed us to our table and then we were
offered tea, coffee and biscuits. The morning started with Baroness Barbara
Young (DUK Chief Executive) welcoming us. That was followed by Adrian
Sanders (MP) who prepared us to meet our MP's. After a lovely lunch (especially
the burgers) it was time to make our way to meet John Pugh. Our DUK 'buddy,'
Sam took a small group down to Portculis House. Security was an experience,
then the time came! We spoke about our key points, education, GP's and
hospital/clinic appointments. We left the letter with him with all the other
points and views off our parents from the group. His personal assistant took
plenty of notes and we felt our 15 min lobby went well. We also invited him to
come to meet us all at a fundraising event, which he has agreed too. After a
picture for the press under Big Ben we were invited to a drinks reception in the
Strangers Dining Room at the House of Commons. Once again Baroness Barbara
Young spoke and Paul Burstow gave a speech, details of which are on the DUK
website or our FB page. After a few ‘drinkies’ it was time to leave. Overall the
day was a fantastic experience. We met lots of lovely people and exchanged
stories about the differences around the country. Duk had organised a full
action packed day and were very professional from start to finish. Jackie and I
would like to thank the group for letting us represent you. Let's hope some good
will come out of it. Here's to our next campaign!!!
We, as a group, would like to thank Diabetes Uk for organising
this event.
