COBRAS BRASILEIRAS Project, used for the identification

of snakes of Brazilian fauna as well as provide informa-

tion for accidents involving these animals, is in search of

sponsorship.

COBRAS BRASILEIRAS Project, so important for the scientific and established communities in Brazil, can only be completed with the financial support of a sponsor.

If you work in an open mind large company which is interested in public health you can help us. You can help us finding an open mind person in your company. A person with conditions to foresee the positive marketing and social returns of this project.

This Project so necessary to the population and the professional environ-ment, arrived at the critical point where it needs financial assistance to be realized.

COBRAS BRASILEIRAS Project constitute a photographic and information database, that will be used for the rapid and efficient identification of snakes of Brazilian fauna, as well as provide information on the initial steps to the diagno-sis and treatment of accidents involving these animals. Also be used as an important reference source of local support. Cover the areas of public health: medical, veterinary, biological, ecological, edu-cation and is therefore of great social significance.

The project was initiated in late 2007 by Fernando Bergamaschi de Souza (see other projects) and in May 2008 already received several support and recognition letters by Government and Universities in Brazil. In these years COBRAS BRASILEIRAS Project has provided services in counsel-ing, training and identification of animals for countless people and businesses around the country.

PROJECT ADVANTAGES

• This project will save lives! Will benefit you and ALL community. Will save lives of people and animals!

• Through the dissemination of knowledge and ease in identifying, the eco-logical consequences of unnecessary killing of snakes, that pose no danger and are important to the ecological balance, may decrease dramatically.

• Through the Identification Program you will know in advance which animals and local rescue exist in a geographical area. Safer camps and safer rides!

• Training in Schools and Universities. It will be a reference source for consul-tation.

The Portal prototype on the Internet receives about 18 to 25 thousand visits per month, both of Brazil and several other countries (Google Analytics, Webalizer, AWStats).

The COBRAS BRASILEIRAS Project is a work of great relevance to the population and scientific community. Will generate a very good marketing return and a very positive social image for its investors.

IMPORTANCE OF IDENTIFYING SNAKES

Nowadays there is a new scaring deadline, and with growing numbers: In the next 24 hours, 380 persons in Brazil will be bitten by a venomous animal.

• The identification of the animal is of vital importance for the decision of the serum to be applied. The serum or antivenom is specific to one snake genre, having no effect on the others and preferably should be administered within the first 2 hours.

• The survival of the patient depends very much on the initial measures adopted. The importance of a good source of information for its identifica-tion is invaluable.

• Accidents caused by snakebite are a serious social and health care problem by the frequency they occur and for the morbidity and mortality caused. The snakebite can have devastating physiological effects in human body because the toxins from the venom of snakes have evolved to reach almost any type of function of the body or body part.

ACCIDENTS STATISTICS

• Accidents with venomous animals is the 3rd cause of health injury com-plains in Brazil. MÉDIA ANUAL DE AGRAVOS - SINAN — Information System for Diseases Notification, Department of Health

• Department of Health - Health Surveillance Bureau - Accidents with poi-sonous animals increased 157%. Survey conducted by Department of Surveillance and Technical Unit from Department of Health indicates that there was an increase of 157% in the number of notifications in the last 10 years. In 2011 alone, there were more than 139,000 accidents, with 293 deaths.

• International Society on Toxinology — Global Snakebite Initiative. We estimate that, globally, at least 421,000 envenoming's and 20,000 deaths occur each year due to snakebite. These figures may be as high as 1,841,000 envenoming's and 94,000 deaths. Based on the fact that envenoming occurs in about one in every four snakebites, between 1.2 million and 5.5 million snakebites could occur annually. CONCLUSIONS: Snakebites cause consider-able morbidity and mortality worldwide.

• PLOS Medicine — The Global Burden of Snakebite: A Literature Analysis and Modelling Based on Regional Estimates of Envenoming and Deaths. We estimate that at least 421,000 envenomings and 20,000 deaths occur world-wide from snakebite annually. These figures may be as high as 1,841,000 envenomings and 94,000 deaths. On the basis of the estimation that the total number of snakebites is two to three times the number of envenom-

ings, we estimate that 1,200,000–5,500,000 snakebites may occur globally. The vast majority of the estimated burden of snakebite is in South and Southeast Asia, sub-Saharan Africa, and Central and South America, as iden-tified in previous estimates of the global burden.

• WHO (World Health Orga-nization) — The global burden of snakebite: data retrieval produced infor-mation for many of the world’s 227 countries, which were grouped into 21 geographical regions. The researchers estimate that 421,000 envenom-ings and 20,000 deaths occur worldwide from snakebite each year, but warn that these figures may be as high as 1,841,000 envenomings and 94,000 deaths, especially in areas of sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia where anti venoms are hard to obtain. India has the highest estimated annual envenomings and deaths: 81,000, and 11,000 respectively..

The disorderly growth of urban centers provides more favorable conditions for the establishment and proliferation of these animals among these centers, endangering both people and animals

We are currently looking for both individual and corporate sponsorship for this greatly needed project! If you would like to help make a difference, please contact me directly!
