Liposomes are nanosized spheres of lipid bilayers, its size is less than one thousandth of a millimeter. They are composed entirely by natural biocompatible molecules, which have the ability to transport active ingredients within or on its membrane, releasing the active compo-nent in a gradual and controlled way providing greater bioavailability, protection and long lasting effect.

hyaluronic acid (ha) is a linear polysaccharide of high molecu-lar weight, naturally occurring in the human body. It changes the physical properties of the epider-mis, especially due to its ability to immobilize a large volume of water in its structures, and is also active in relation to improve intercellular communication. It is applied as a connective tissue organizer and hydrating substance on the basis of its status as the most hydrated poly-mer known. Since it is a naturally occurring substance, ha is free of immunogenic activity, and is a non-toxic and non-irritating substance.

ha’s basic mechanism of action is the improved barrier function of the

stratum corneum. ha low molecular weight is able to penetrate into the deep layers of the stratum corneum, where it operates on several levels.

First, it has the capacity to protect phospholipids against peroxidation by uV and free radicals. These phos-pholipids are part of the natural moisturizing factor (nmF), the pres-ence of which is essential for the proper barrier function of the skin.

Secondly, ha has a positive effect on the activity of betaglucocerebro-sidase, an enzyme responsible for the release of ceramides from their glucosyl precursors. Ceramides are then incorporated into the lipid bilayer of corneocytes, and the nmF function is enhanced.

The last positive mechanism is the natural ability of hyaluronic acid to immobilize a large quantity of water in its structures, which helps to restore proper nmF functioning in the epidermis.

Liposomes assembled by Lipomize are formulated with natural phospholipids extracted from soy lecithin.
