Planning for Consultation •The planning phase can include obtaining information from the community or stakeholders that will assist with developing the project & identify issues early

•Example - conducting a survey of schools within an area to ascertain student travel data & local information to assist with infrastructure development.

First Steps • Investigate stakeholder issues & prepare for consultation•Brief the Dept of Education & schools about the proposed project and seek any initial feedback. •Seek support for the survey •Inform, Consult & Engage them!

Who Can Conduct the Survey?

Options are:

• Organize an independent local organization (research organization?) to assist with the data collection

• Use local government resources?

• The school or local university could conduct the survey using their students?

Data collection

•Number of students at the school

•Modes of travel to/from school (walk, bus, motorcycle, car)

•Locations of students' homes (distance from school)

•Parking areas in and around schools

Data Collection•Drop off/pick up zones

•Number & location of crossings & supervisors

•Numbers of students (and others) using the existing crossings

•Key locations around the schools where pedestrians cross roads not at established crossings

•Speed zones in area
