In the State Public Affairs Office, one of our goals is to tell the Connecticut National Guard story. We want to do that by letting the state and country know what you have accomplished during your time as a Guardsman. One of the methods we use is the Hometown News Release Program which is a simple and efficient process that lets us tell your community and your family your news.

The Hometown News Release program takes the information provided and produces a short story, then markets that story to the news agencies in your hometown areas and to those of your family. This is done with the information that you provide, so accuracy is extremely important. It only takes a couple of minutes to fill out the form so we can share the Guard story with our local communities, state and country.

The Following list is just some of the examples for which you can fill out the Hometown News Release Form: •Graduation from military schools •Promotions to E-3 or higher •Selection to E-9 or O-6 or higher •Participation in major exercises or overseas deployments •Awards of Army Achievement Medal or higher •Re-enlistment or retirements •Individual achievements: •Receipt of college degree, include field of study •Non-Commissioned Officer of the Month Quarter or Year •Direct commissions and warrants •Competition winners •Assumption of command

What’s Next?

•You review the form for completeness and accuracy•You write the Press Release for the EVENT using the templates provided•You submit the Press Release to the State Public Affairs Office for review and distribution

•You further review the form for possible Feature Articles•You arrange time to interview the Soldier/Airman/Militia Member•You write the feature•You get photos of the subject doing his/her job, volunteer work, hobby, etc.•You write properly formatted cutlines for the photos•You submit the Feature Article and Photos to the State Public Affairs Office for possible inclusion in the Connecticut Guardian and Facebook or distribution to other media
