Placerville art galleries and merchants stay open late to host changing art shows, late night shopping, dining, refreshments, demonstrations and entertainment. Stagecoach rides by Wiser Overland Stage Line & Friends are offered 12-4 pm, weather permitting. The art walks takes place after 5:00 pm until approximately 9:00 pm.

Senior Peer CounselingSenior Peer Counseling– This program was started in 1988 serving adults 55+

here in EDC. We are para-professionals trained in such issues as depression, loneliness, grief, issues related to “the aging” process and the everyday issues in the life of a senior. If you would like to participate in our one-on-one confidential “peer” counseling, we can lend a supportive ear to listen and, hopefully, help you to come up with some new solutions in your life.

MembersMembersSHIELD Members have duties that include, but are not limited to :

Vehicle Patrol in our SHIELD patrol cars, walking trail patrol, traffic patrol, vacation vome checks, graffiti patrol, records support, auto/fleet management, inmate worker supervision, radio maintenance, crime analysis, and security presence at special events.

To qualify for SHIELD (Seniors Helping In Enforcement-Like Duties), you must be 50 years or older, and willing to volunteer a minimum of 16 hours/month.

Our Cadet Program introduces young men and women to the exciting and rewarding career of law enforcement. The program lets them experience and explore areas of law enforcement, such as Detectives, Patrol, Narcotics, K9, SWAT, CSI, Dispatch, Property and Evidence, Community Services and Records.

To Qualify for Cadets you must be 14-20 years old, currently enrolled in high school and maintaining a 2.0 GPA or have a high school diploma or GED, be willing to attend bi-weekly meetings and volunteer a minimum of eight hours/month.

CARE TRAK is a radio frequency mobile locator. ELDER ID and CARE TRAK of E.D.C. help return a lost individual home. ELDER ID is a free program that leaves pertinent information on file with local law enforcement.In event that a search is necessary, the device looks like a wristwatch, yet emits a radio frequency which is unique to each individual. If the client is missing, search and rescue teams can tune it to its frequency and reduce search time from hours to minutes.

Being alone is one of the greatest fears adults have as they grow older. The YANA program has been credited with saving lives of many older adults.

This FREE service allows older adults to find comfort and security knowing someone will be checking in on them on a daily basis. In the event something does happen, family and friends will be notified. The enrollment process is easy and it provides the senior with two morning flexible calling schedules and multiple contacts in the event of an emergency.

The E.D.C. Dept. of Human Services now offers a case management program called the MSSP (Multi-purpose Senior Services Program.)

Under this program, a case manager and public health nurse visit individuals in their home and work together with them and their families to arrange for appropriate community resources for these frail seniors or disabled adults.

To be eligible for the MSSP program, individuals must be 65 years of age or older, Medi-Cal eligible, and at risk of placement in a nursing facility. LINKAGES is for adults over age 18.

Grants to Organizations Please Donate

The El Dorado Community Foundation considers several types of competitive grant requests. When funding is available from any of the following funds, the Foundation will issue a Request for Proposals, including the current funding focus and application deadline.

Endow El Dorado Fund – The Foundation’s Board of Directors consults closely with community leaders and organizations to select an appropriate funding focus that will be responsive to current community needs.

Field of Interest Funds – Awards are made in areas designated by donors who established these funds (such as arts and culture, children and families, and seniors).

Area Funds – Different geographic areas within the county are establishing funds to benefit the people in these specific local communities within the county.

– EDC provides caring and protective environment for adults (especially the frail elderly) who require assistance and supervision due to physical impairment or mental confusion. Participants may be struggling with the effects of Parkinson’s disease, arthritis, stroke, Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. Services offered through the Center are designed to meet the needs of each individual participant and provide mental stimulation and emotional satisfaction.

– No special skills are required. If you can drive, call, talk, listen and smile, there are lots of opportunities to work with people and projects.

– Volunteers are needed in many areas of Marshall Hospital, such as information desks, patient floors, gift shop, blood pressure clinics, blood drives/blood banks, emergency floors. Volunteers are asked to serve 50 hours a year and attend meetings. In exchange, volunteers are offered free orientation, training, free TB testing, annual flu shots, workers compensation insurance, and new skills.

The EDC Active Aging Program is designed to promote physical and mental health benefits in the older adult community with exercise classes specially created for them.

– Weekly and biweekly classes are offered in Placerville, Cameron Park, Diamond Springs, and Pollock Pines.
