2. About the DEB Grant US Sailing/US Powerboating is focused on
increasing the awareness of, and participation in, existing
nationally recognized on-the-water Safe Powerboat Handling (SPBH)
courses through the Drivers Education for BoatersTM (DEB) program.
Our goal is to improve the participation, safety and enjoyment of
recreational boating. There are several key objectives as part of
this: Increasing the number of boaters receiving Safety Education
Certificates that conform to the National Boating Education
Standards Raising awareness of safe boating practices through
On-Water, skill-based training of powerboat instructors and
recreational boaters Increasing public exposure to and
participation in On-Water, skill-based safe powerboating operation
Increasing youth and adult life jacket wear through targeted safe
powerboating education Providing On-Water, skill-based safe
powerboating education to improve operator compliance and

3. Our Network Thanks to the US Coast Guard, weve been able to
grow our network and also provide support to our seventy two (72)
Powerboat Training Centers & course providers.

4. Resources for Centers & Providers Weve created a slate
of materials which promote safe boating and can be customized by
instructors and course providers for local use.

5. The Impact 71 Powerboat Instructors Trained in Current Grant
Cycle: 1,684 SPBH Students Certified in Current Grant Cycle: 414
Powerboat Instructors Trained since first DEB Awarded: 7,350 SPBH

Institutes which have provided Training Center representatives with
formal training on how to implement materials locally
