•The Line…. Safe beginner recreational boat operation
–Differentiate who is above the line from who is below the line
•Identify fundamental skills that distinguish safe from unsafe boat operation
•Include them in design/delivery of recreational boating instruction for beginners

On-Water Standards Project: What’s in it for you?
• Skills-based Standards – you can use to differentiate safe from unsafe beginner-level recreational boaters– SAIL, POWER & HUMAN domains– Developed and agreed to by experts– American National Standard (ANS) [pending]
• Performance Rubrics – Research-based approach you can use to assess performance on the standards
• Checklists – Validated Tools instructors can use to calibrate entry-level performance assessment
