Appropriations: Provisions of law that sets aside funds for a
specific obligation and expenditure.
Budget: A financial plan for collecting and allocating resources for a
definite period of time.
Budget Authority: Legal authority to obligate the government to make

Fiscal Year: A government's accounting period.
Revenues: The yield of sources of income (such as taxes) that a political
entity collects and receives.
Recurrent expenditure – all payments other than for capital assets,
including on goods and services, (wages and salaries, employer
contributions), interest payments, subsidies
and transfers.
capital expenditure – payments for acquisition of fixed capital assets,
stock, land, projects etc.
