Does the Topic paper give a

from annex

Recommendation to planners

from fisheries

1. Identify important areas also outside your EEZ

That means: Show areas that are important to your country,

regardless of where these areas are.

Because it is good for planners when they plan, otherwise they

will miss it. In additions, mutual efforts of showing these areas

can be a way to find areas of pan-Baltic importance.

2. Input data should be made in the same way in all countries

3. After identifying areas of importance add some extra space,

to safe up for future change

Because our maps are only snapshots.

Is it good to identify important areas based

on today’s market price?

Not that easy! Depends on how you calculate.

Profit or market price. And profit depends on so

many things, such as distance, vessel

efficiency, labour cost,…

Is historic data of catches a good way to

predict future changes of areas?

Not always.

Because it will not always be like it has been.

And climate change is a new factor.

Fishing patterns change due to politics too!

Examples:

EU-membership and Russian market.
