MASTHEAD PROGRESS

Firstly I have used no effect on this layer, I have just written the name ‘Haste’ as my masthead and used the font ‘Concursomoderne BTN’ because I personally really like the ‘A’ in the word Haste. In my plan I drew an arrow across the letter A and this is the closest font to the own font I created in my plan. It gives the masthead more effect and a little more edge.

I haven’t done much here, I used the effect Colour Overlay as I wanted to make the colour a darker red rather than the brighter red it was when I started. I prefer the darker overlay colour as it looks more professional and I would like this dark red colour to be part of my colour scheme all the way through my magazine.

MASTHEAD PROGRESS

Thirdly, I wanted to make my masthead more clear and make it stand out on the cover a lot more. I did this by adding the effect of ‘Stroke’, I added the black stroke around the outside of the letters to add more definition to the word. I feel like this has made my masthead have a lot more edge

Lastly I have added a colour overlay to a darker red to fit into my colour scheme. I then added a bevel/emboss effect which made the masthead look more professional and have a shine to make it look real.

I have now added a simple drop shadow for more effect on my masthead. After this I added more texture.

STARTING MY COVER• This is my cover image and I am planning to

manipulate this to make the brick background fade out into a more white colour by adding a fill layer and setting the opacity to 50% so the bricks are still visible. I am going to refine the image so the model in the image stands out more.

• After this I have used the lasso tool by clicking on layer and having a new fill layer. I am hoping this is going to make my image look more professional.

Page 5: Photoshop image

COVER PROGRESS• This is the start of my cover after I have refined the edge of the model and faded the background into the colour white with a 50% opacity. By refining the image has made the edges less choppy and a lot smoother.

• I have added my masthead which I have explained the progress of this on Photoshop in this PowerPoint, but I have added my masthead underneath my image as I want the model image to be the main thing on the cover.

Page 6: Photoshop image

COVER PROGRESS• After adding my image and masthead I have now added text under my masthead saying ‘UK’s no.1 Indie Rock magazine’ for marketing purposes. I have added ‘haste awards’ as I want this to be a main feature of my magazine. • ‘Elena’ is shown in a pretty font to add a lighter approach to my magazine cover although I’m not 100% sure this stands out enough as I would like it to right now.• I have added the issue date (138) the date (January 30 2014) and the price (£2.99) as these on the basic conventional magazine cover.

Page 7: Photoshop image

COVER PROGRESS• I started off with the basic magazine style conventions on my cover- I edited the picture and put this on here with some varied font already with the name of the feature Elena and a basic cover line on the right showing popular names of the indie rock genre to attract the audience.• I have added a bar code at the bottom as well as the details about the magazine at the top right of the cover. I have done this because these are the genuine conventions of any magazine cover and I have tried to follow this as much as possible.

Page 8: Photoshop image

COVER PROGRESS• I have now added more of a cover line on the left hand side of ‘reviews’ which is part of my contents page so I am linking them all together. I have added house hold indie rock names again: Swim Deep, Lorde and Jake Bugg. I have added these to give a more fuller approach to my cover.• I have added a ‘Win multiple albums & merch!’ for marketing purposes as well and I am hoping to add album covers to the bottom of the page too.• I think this is looking more like a cover now.

Page 9: Photoshop image

COVER PROGRESS• Next I have added some album covers at the bottom of the cover. I thought this would be effective due to the ‘WIN’ advertisement beneath this, advertising these albums on the cover.• I made the first two covers of ‘Puzzles’ and ‘Elena’ myself on Photoshop by taking these photos. Both of the photos involve nature and I feel like this gives a lighter approach to my genre. Then I took the tribes picture myself from my poster I received from a previous order.

CONTENTS PROGRESS First Draft

I have changed the size of the editors note at the bottom and made the box smaller to fit in with the structure more, I may even make this smaller in my progress depending on my final decision.

I have filled the big space at the top of the screen with ‘This week includes’ in the same font as my masthead so the design and theme sticks throughout, this may change in my process.

I’ve noticed my masthead doesn’t match the theme of dark red I have changed it to so I may have to make my masthead a darker colour to fit more.

Page 11: Photoshop image

CONTENTS PROGRESS

I started my contents page by putting the structure I wanted, I chose the red colour as it’s dark and seems to be a nice theme that links with the cover. I haven’t added a lot of numbers or words yet other than my editors note which is at the bottom and more words about the feature above this.

I added the word ‘contents’ and my masthead at the top for it to stand out, with the basic structure of numbers inside the boxes. I have added ‘features’, ‘reviews’ and ‘…plus’. These are the main subtitles for my contents page.

Page 12: Photoshop image

CONTENTS PROGRESS• I have now added some text to each of the sections although not a lot. I will add more text in the next part of my progress as I wanted to add the images. I have added three gig images that I took all myself onto my contents. They are all members of the indie rock genre.• I have a picture of my model ‘Elena Hale’ and am going to continue adding more and more text.• The issue date has been added as I feel as if this is important and also fills the white space at the top- this still follows the conventions of a contents page.

Page 13: Photoshop image

CONTENTS PROGRESS• On the left, I added a thick red line under the contents to add more of a structure. I have added all of the text on the features side, these words link to the indie rock genre and advertise lots of different artists and festivals.

• I have now on the right added all of the text on the reviews and …plus section.

Page 14: Photoshop image

CONTENS PROGRESS• On the left I have added information on how to meet Miles Kane and I have added the information for my main feature Elena Hale. I added another picture of my model too as I thought it went nicely.

• On the right I have added a ‘subscribe now!’ for marketing purposes with a pretty frame. Also the shapes at the side of the word contents gives it more structure and stands out.

Page 15: Photoshop image

CONTENTS PROGRESS

• My contents page is now a lot more full with information and pictures and I think it looks a lot better and progress has definitely been made!• I have added another ‘WIN’ box for marketing processes to win a chance to go to a Haim concert for free.

Page 16: Photoshop image

DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD PROGRESS

• I started my DPS by adding my haste masthead in the corner added with the website.• I added the title ‘ELENA HALE’ as this is the feature with a quote letting the audience know what the interview is going to consist of.

• I have now added my image of my model. I like how it fades into the background and I am trying to add the text in as smoothly as possible. • I added a quote on the side added with a

bow also to give a more lighter approach.

Page 17: Photoshop image

DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD PROGRESS

• I have now added all of my text although not all of my article could fit on the page so I had to say (turn over for more Elena interviewing). • I added a blown up quote to the centre of my article as this quote further defines what the article is about and the audience can decide if they want to read it (as this will probably be read before the article itself)

Page 18: Photoshop image

I have created a puzzle piece at the bottom to symbolise the band my model used to be a part of. I have advertised page 95 in my magazine which involves an interview with the band without Elena.

DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD PROGRESS

Here I have added an ‘extra’ with an arrow that says there is more on my feature on the website. Also a sneak peak to her new video. This is for marketing purposes again.
