Summer vacations are on and everyone loves baking, even kids. It can be a fun hobby to develop
during vacations. Baking is a fun with right kind of bakeware.
Bakeware options range from glass to ceramic to silicone. Read here there properties to choose the
perfect bakeware.
Glass Bakeware
Glass bakeware is a necessity in kitchens. Use it freely for baking, freezing, roasting etc. It is
highly versatile. These glass bakeware comes either with a glass or silicone cover.
Its non-porous surface keeps the flavors away from getting absorbed into the glassware. It keeps
it away from reacting with highly acidic foods, making it perfect for any kind of baking including
the dishes with complex flavors. Being a great conductor of heat it warms quickly and holds it for
longer duration.
An important thing to note is that glass bakeware has to come to room temperature between
freezing and baking. Its other benefit is that it can be cleaned easily with liquid detergent and
water.
Ceramic Bakeware
Ceramic bakeware is a good conductor of heat like glass; it doesn’t corrode, keeps the flavor intact,
easy to clean and pretty to look at. Put them on table directly from oven. It comes in various
appealing colors (pink, red, yellow), shapes (circular, square, flower, bear, butterfly etc) and sizes,
ideal for any occasion. .
Ceramic bakeware usually comes with lids to keep your bakery products warm. Refrain from using
it for baking directly after using from the freezer and vice versa. This will avoid cracking and
shattering.
Metal and Non-Stick Bakeware
Metal and non-stick bakeware are best for cakes, breads, cookies, muffins and tarts. They come
in variety of shapes and sizes. The non-shiny plain metal bakeware can be made non-sticky by
applying grease, parchment liners or baking mats.
However shiny non-stick bakeware can release harmful chemicals during baking process.
They are typically made of stainless steel or aluminum. Out of both, aluminum is cheaper when
compared to glass and ceramic and it is good conductor of heat. Aluminum bakeware can react
with acids if food is stored for long in them. They are perfect for making crisp cookies and breads.
Silicone Bakeware
Latest entrant to the bakeware family, silicone is highly impressive. It can hold upto 400 degrees
Fahrenheit.
Its non-stick surface works well for baking. Most baked dishes simply slide out without much
effort and without greasing.
If you are looking for a crisp finish, they might not do your job. Silicone takes longer time to heat
and therefore increases the baking time.
