The music video is not done n a narrative way but it goes with
Goodwin’s analysis of what a music video should consist of. The
visuals are related to the lyrics as seen in this scene. In this scene the
lyric is “when I was a young boy my father took me into the city to see a
marching band. He said son when you grow up will you be the savior of
the broken, the beaten and the damned . Will defeat them, your demons
and all the non believers the plans that they have made. Because one
day I'll leave you a phantom to lead you in the summer to join the black
parade.” this scene is related to the lyric because the man in the
hospital bed is receiving the order as the son who is remembering what
his father said to him.
This scene has the notion
of looking because the
man is looking at the
screen at Gerard Way.
“I'll leave you a phantom to lead you in the summer to join
the black parade” this scene shows that the visuals in this
music video is related to the lyric.
Like rock videos there is a performance
scene within the music video and that
is one of the conventions of a rock
music video. This shows that audience
more of the band and what the bands’
like
Also like most music video that
involves band there are close
ups of the lead singer during
the music video.
In this scene the lyric goes with the
visuals because the lyric is
“sometimes I get that feeling, she’s
watching over me” and the visual
shows through the cinematography
that the band is being watched
because the audience is put in the
position to look at the band though
an small hole.
The black parade floater is
shown and that tells the
audience what side that son
is on and what he should
join.
The scene gives the audience
a clear view of what genre of
music it is. The color worn by
the band and others in the
music video shows the
audience that it is clearly emo
rock.
