Previous Album Artwork (2004)

Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge• The album cover is very similar to the cover of The

Black Parade (the later album) and establishes further the genre and expectations of the band.

• This is the second studio album by the band. This means that the band needs to create and establish their name and fan base.

Album Artwork – The Black Parade (2006)

• The bands name ‘My Chemical Romance’ is larger than the title of the album, I believe this is because of the genre of the band and the album.

• Most rock bands from the ‘noughties’ were trying to establish themselves after the popularity of boybands in the 90s.

• The album artwork is not of the band, nor a person, this is also very typical of the rock genre as bands like to compare themselves to artists, rather than just musicians.

‘Post-Black Parade’ Album Artwork (2010)

Danger Days: The True Lives of Fabulous Killjoys• This album is the rather different from the latter

album artworks. The band seems to break free of the ‘emo’ reputation slightly and conveys themselves as punks instead.

Music Video - Helena• Helena is the first single released from the 2004

album ‘Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge’. • Like ‘Welcome to the Black Parade’, Helena was

very dark and ‘emo’.

• The music video for the first single released on the album was for ‘Welcome to the Black Parade’, which coincided with the album artwork, the insert and the genre of music the video included.

• In the insert, a poster and popup book are featured where the lyrics to the songs are established and an image of the band dressed as they do in the music video.

Music Video – NaNaNa• NaNaNa was the first single released from

the 2010 album ‘Danger Days: The True Lives of Fabulous Killjoys’

• NaNaNa was very different from previous works by MCR because a punk, retro theme was highlighted.

• The song is also very upbeat and loud, unlike The Black Parade’s songs, which are quite depressing and downbeat.

Concert Design - Helena

The costume worn by the band members matches the costumes on the album cover.

The concert design very much matched the themes portrayed in the songs performed and the album artwork.

Concert Design – The Black Parade• The live performance had similarities to

both the album artwork and the music video previously mentioned.

• Gerard Way (lead singer- pictured left) wears the costume worn in both the music video and by the illustration on the CD cover.

• The use of blue in all performances on ‘The Black Parade World Tour’ references the depressing nature of the songs.
