CHILD LABOR

SPAIN

In Spain, there is a law that regulates the age, the hours and the type of work that children under 18 years can do. The minimum age for working is 16, with some exceptions like children participating in public performances (singing, circus…). For example, the children under eighteen cannot do night work.

Officially, child labor exploitation is not considered a problem, but some non-governmental organizations think that there is more child labor than we know. Some examples are children who work collecting strawberries and olives or selling thing in the street.

The statistics are based on the children who go to the school, but many of the cases of child labor concern children who don’t go to school and whose families travel around and work as temporary workers.

In my opinion we should pay more attention to this problem, which is now a small problem but it can be bigger in the future. Children should have time to go to school and have fun while they can.
