Why Choose Sky?
Choosing which TV provider you’re going to go with isn’t an easy decision. Whether it’s BT, Virgin or
Sky, each one comes with their own set of pros and cons that need to be considered – especially
when you think of the money you’ll be paying. Recent years have seen Virgin offering so-called ‘quad
play’ packages and BT unveiling their free BT Sport package in an effort to pull people away from the
gravitational field of Sky. As far as we’re concerned though, Sky offer the best value for money out of
everyone in the market with a suite of exclusive features and channels that simply can’t be matched
by other pay-tv providers. To illustrate this, we’ve pulled together our ten favourite things about Sky,
so join us as we share them below. If you
Sky Customer Service
Sky have excellent customer service with low wait times to get handled. The key is that the call
centre operatives seem to have a handle on most aspects of the business and so the messing around
with call transfers is minimised.
Sky Atlantic
As the only place in which to see some of America’s biggest TV exports like The Sopranos, Boardwalk
Empire, Mad Men, Girls, Game of Thrones and countless others, Sky Atlantic was always going to
make our list. Available exclusively to Sky subscribers at any level, Sky Atlantic is astonishingly good
value and will likely save you more than a few quid on DVD box sets in the future. There’s also a
good number of original Sky programmes which air on Sky Atlantic like Alan Partridge, so not having
a Sky subscription really leaves you short in that regard.
Sky Go
For years TV programmes were shackled to the big box in your living room – well, not any more.
With every Sky subscription you get access to Sky Go, Sky’s streaming TV service. What does this
mean for you? Well, it means being able to watch live TV from anywhere you’ve got a reasonably
strong internet connection. Not every channel from your Sky subscription is available on the service
at the moment, but it’s still an excellent way to get your TV fix on the go.
Sky Movies
If you love watching films, you simply can’t get by without a Sky Movies subscription. For your
monthly fee you’ll receive tons of premiers of the latest cinematic blockbusters, countless classics
and access to Sky’s streaming library of well over 10,000 films. When compared to a Netflix
subscription, Sky Movies makes it look pale and with an excellent selection of channels, you’re
bound to find something for every member of your household.
Sky Sports
Got a sports fanatic in your life? Sky simply can’t be topped. BT may have launched their sport
service with a handful of Premier League games and a couple of other sports, but Sky have a service
in a completely other world. Not just Premier League games but most of the major European
leagues, top flight golf tournaments, tennis, rugby, darts, snooker, F1 and countless other sports of
which coverage is simply unavailable elsewhere. It might cost more than BT Sports, but if you’re into
sports, there isn’t an alternative out there that’s worth mentioning. Sky have made Sky Sports key to
their advertising, and it’s easy to see why, nobody is coming close to Sky Sports and it doesn’t look
like they will any time soon.
Sky +
Sky + might not seem like the revelation is was back when it launched in 2002, but it’s still a
brilliantly useful service, and one that many of us haven’t tried yet. Sky + gives you the ability to
pause, rewind and fast forward live TV (perfect for when you want to make a cup of tea), as well as
letting you record programmes directly on to the box itself. You’ll never miss an episode again and
with the huge hard drives now inside the Sky + box, you’ll constantly have a library of top TV
programmes and films ready for you to watch.
Sky Store
If you find yourself without something worthwhile to watch on your Sky subscription (which seems
unlikely), there’s always the Sky Store. Recently launched by Sky, it lets you download and watch
some of the biggest films in the world from the comfort of your living room sofa and with certain
films, Sky will even send you a DVD copy to keep in your collection, giving you instant gratification
and the option to watch it again at any time.
Sky 3D
If you’ve got a 3D TV, Sky should be at the top of your list. As the only pay TV provider with a 3D
channel, Sky are very well placed to make the most out of your TV. With great 3D presentations of
top flight football, arts events, documentaries and many more, Sky 3D is an innovative and excellent
way to watch TV.
Sky HD
Sky have more HD channels than any other TV provider, which is fantastic for the huge numbers of
us who own HD TV’s. If you’ve been watching regular definition TV on your HDTV, you’ve not been
getting anywhere near the value out of it that you should have. A crisper image, better sound and a
smoother image all come with watching on a HD channel, so don’t underestimate the power of HD
when it comes to your TV.
Sky Multiscreen
We all know that if you’ve got a family, TV seems to spread out around the house and keeping
everyone happy can be difficult. That’s where Sky Multiscreen comes in, because for a small fee it
allows you to share the Sky subscription around your home, so that your kids can watch what they
want in their room and you can continue watching TV in peace downstairs. Perfect!
Sky Apps
Sky do a great job of letting you take your subscription wherever you go, and Sky’s suite of apps
across your PC, games console, tablets and mobile phone are a prime example of that. You’re never
more than a few seconds away from your Sky subscription and some of the best TV programmes of
all time, what more could you ask for?
