Originally, the term ‘Indie’ referred to a band that wasn’t signed to a major label, and didn’t have major radio airplay. However, over the years, the styles of Artists signed to these labels developed and changed, creating many sub-genres that we recognise today.

Folk Music is a term encompassing both traditional and contemporary styles. Originally, Folk Music was linked to the lower classes, but the revival of folk, known as ‘New Wave’ Folk Music, had brought it back into view. Modern Folk Artists make music with the traditional instruments, such as harmonicas and banjo’s, but also include electric guitars and drums.

The Front Cover Image relates to the Social Groups I am representing as he is playing an instrument, as well as his ‘image’. The ear piercing and bass guitar suggest that he is part of the Indie Social Group, as this kind of style is related to these members,

The colour scheme contains a mix of both light and dark colours, making the cover stand out against the dark background. The green and yellow in particular represent the Indie and Folk social groups, as they reflect the ‘laid back’ style of music that the artists make, and members of this social group listen to.

The image is only of a male, however, the Sell Lines on the Front Cover indicate that the magazine includes female artists, such as Florence and the Machine, as well as Fanfarlo, widening the Target Audience and ensuring that the magazine attracts both males and females.
