Parallel's

You only live once, then you die, then you´re trueBut you only die once so will you live til you do

I´m running off in a new directionAnd if you wanna come there´ll be no objection

So get everything that you want, you only live onceBut where do you live (x3)

You can only grow wings when you lose fear of flight,Flight, light, fear of life

But you can barely hold yourself together in the night,In a parallel universe, yeah

Another you is putting their wrong self first, yeah,A mechanism for shrugging off that curse,

Yeah, you only live once

You only live once, then you die, then you´re troughBut you only die once so will you live til you do,

Oh, I´m running off in a new directionAnd if you wanna come there´ll be no objection

So get everything that you want, you only live onceBut where do you live (x3)

You only live once, live onceYou only live once, live once

You only live once, then you die, then you´re troughBut you only die once so will you live til you do

• Based upon my lyrical analysis which suggests the idea of seizing the day and taking advantage of every opportunity, I have decided to base my music video around this idea.

• I have thought through the different aspects which could be portrayed to an audience to show this idea and have come up with various different scenarios which link to the idea.

The immensely accurate cut to the beat scenes will present very clearly different states and emotions different people are experiencing alongside their own realisation. I have decided to include various different scenarios which would cause many different emotions to overwhelm the characters; these will run throughout the video. I have had various different ideas for these scenarios ranging from marriage, right up to illness. However, the five scenarios I have chosen to feature within the video are a break up between a male and females relationship including flash backs to when they first began this relationship- and both characters having the realisation of the fact that they need to stop fretting over what has already happened and move on in life instead of dwelling on the bad aspects of things. The second scenario I have conjured up is a negative domestic situation in which a teenage boy does not feel safe due to the fierce arguments his parents are having which is a reoccurring event. The boy can be seen getting more and more distressed, the cut to the beat that I wish to use will present clearly what is happening to the parents and then cut to the facial expressions and actions of the young boy. In the end the boy realises that unless he stops this he will have to go through the same thing over and over again, so he conjures up the courage to go and intervene. . Then a short scene of the boy, his mum and dad hugging will be shown to show that he seized his opportunity and this has had a positive effect.

• The third scenario will consist of a teenage girl in school feeling she is failing at her subjects, the subject being art. This scene will present clearly that she is struggling as she screws up and throws the pieces of paper she attempts to create art on, until suddenly she has a brainwave and paints the picture she desires, the picture will include some of the lyrics of the song ‘you only live once’ rather than the previous pictures she has attempted which will portray negative words within it such as ‘I give up’ and ‘how do I go on’ etc. These scenarios will continue throughout the video, and shall switch between each one throughout also. I have decided to include the artist in the background of the different scenarios, however the characters cannot see that he is there, this enables me to add lip syncing into the video as well as a narrative.

Mis-en-scene• The Mis-en-scene will be very casual and will relate clearly to everyday life due to the attempt

to make it seem as realistic as possible- also due to the issues with budgeting, which will be a vital part of producing the video due to the fact that it is to be done on my own without support from a company etc. The props will consist of everyday things such as:

• Art equipment which will be available from the school’s art department.• A sofa, which is generally in the homes of many people and are are easily available.• A bed, which I have and can use. The costumes that will be worn by characters will be casual

and simple- relating to everyday life:• Young boy: Jeans and a hoodie (of any colour)• Father: A shirt and jeans/ or black trousers• Mother: A simple and plain blouse alongside dark jeans/ or leggings• Break up male: Polo T-shirt and jeans• Break up female: A dress of any colour (to be decided)• Overall, there will need to be a cast of five people- including someone as the artist.

Lighting and Mood• The mood of the video will vary throughout, based on the different scenarios. For example: • The mood within the break up scene will be solemn and sad, although this will alternate

when the realisation of ‘you only live once’ hits both characters which causes the mood to rise into an inspiring and happy mood.

• The mood within the parent fight scene will begin as frightening and risky, then will alternate as tension builds up within the scene as the boy realises that he should intervene. The final mood of this scenario is linked with the idea of bravery and solution.

• The mood within the art scene will begin as destructive and almost awkward, however the mood will rise into positivity when the girl realises that she can do what she wants to do and then does it.

• Lighting: the lighting will vary throughout the video depending on the scenario.• The break up scene will consist of daylight throughout, as the break up and the realisation

will take place during the daytime.• The parents fight scene will consist of dim lighting taken from a typical home light, however

if this does not appear clear enough a lamp will also be used in each corner of the room.• The art scene will consist of lighting from a school, which includes ceiling lights and daylight

penetrating through the windows.

Camera• The video will be shot with a camera of high sensitivity and resolution- even though the

equipment needs to be of as little cost as possible due to my budgeting. The camera lens needs to be sensitive due to my hope of working with as much natural light as possible for a natural effect- helping to keep the video as realistic as possible.

Locations• Location: Location is very important in this video, due to the three different scenarios and also

involving the artist too. • Location 1: The introduction will consist of the artist walking through a field on his own this creates

the idea that to go on a walk on his own he is either contemplating or trying to head his head around some sort of problem.

Complete and accurate plot/ summary of music video.

• An introduction takes place, as the artist is walking through a field on his own with his head down, clearly contemplating something or appearing to be trying to solve a problem which is portrayed through the fact that he has gone for a walk on his own. As the beat begins to increase and the mood of the song improves, the artist lifts up his head- looks directly at the camera when a close up is shot and begins to sing the lyrics.

• A cut to the beat takes place, and a shot of the couple sitting on the bench in the park clearly having a disagreement, however they appear to be trying to solve this- a shallow depth of field allows us to see the artist in the back ground watching over the couple whilst he continues to sing. The male gets up off the bench and storms off, leaving the woman in tears- the lyrics of the chorus are when she lifts her head out of her hands and a smile creeps across her face as realisation hits her.

• Another cut to the beat goes back to the artist walking through the field, and another then goes to the young boy in his bedroom with his earphones in, clearly trying to block something out- his parents fighting. Tears begin to stream down his face. As the chorus begins he stands up and walks to the top of the stairs where he continues to listen. A cut to the beat goes to the parents in their living room standing and shouting at one another, the mother pushes the male and he appears to shout at her louder. The artist is then viewed in a shallow depth of field behind the boy, looking to be advising him through mind not physically. The boy then runs down the stairs and intervenes in the argument by pulling them apart. A cutaway shot then goes to the artist who continues to walk through the field whilst singing. The camera then takes us back to the family, who are now hugging one another.

• The camera is focused on a piece of paper, with negative artwork and words all over- then cuts to the teenage girls face who is clearly distressed as she scrunches up her paper continuous times. The artist then appears behind her, singing. The words of the chorus ‘you only live once’ are when she picks up her pens and paints and begins to draw. The camera goes back to the artist in the field singing. A cutaway takes us back to a close up of the girls face, she is now smiling. The camera then focuses on the paper she has been drawing on, the new image is positive with the lyrics ‘ you only live once and then you die’ and ‘I’m heading in a new direction’ are included in her drawing.
