WHAT IS NEEDED IN MY MUSIC VIDEO.

KEY ELEMENTS:

Many different types of shots

Change of scene

Five different themes running

through the video.

Visual links to the lyrics.

THINGS I NEED TO THINK CAREFULLY ABOUT .

Page 4: Making of a Music Video

LYRICS.The lyrics suggest the mood, so visuals need

to match the mood set by the lyrics.

The key lyrics have a direct link to the

visuals, however not all lyrics should link to

visuals, otherwise the visuals loose the

impact desired. Therefore, no highlights can be created.

GENRE.The mise-en-scene of my video needs to fit in with the typical

mise-en-scene of pop music. Such as, simple backdrops, black

& white, fade colours, as apposed to the over crowded scene,

bright colours that clash, extreme amounts of bling.

Artists has to be able to perform, and lip-sync. Dancers have

to be good on time, in sync with the music and be able to

perform.

ICONOGRAPHY

Close-up’s of artist(s), showing fashion

and mannerism.

Close relationships shown between

dancers and actors.

Voyeurism towards women.

Page 7: Making of a Music Video

GENRE.Several different camera shots need to be used,

such as:

Close-ups, wide shots, high and low angles,

establishing shot, medium and long shots, and

tracking.

The editing has to be quick cutting,

unnoticeable, and fit with the music, otherwise

it wont work.

Lighting is crucial, have to be able to see and

the contrast has to fit the mood and theme.

TYPICAL THINGS IN MY ARTIST VIDEOS.

9 months ago, Miley Cyrus created music video’s which were very tame, often just of her singing the song with the band behind her. Since then, she’s released “We Can’t Stop.” She saved all her hair off, wore very little clothing, had many references to sexual activity, drug and drink. Then topped this with her second shocker, “Wrecking Ball”. Including a wrecking ball, on which she rode wearing nothing but boots, making sexual references throughout.

MY INTERPRETATION

I have chosen to do “Wreaking Ball”, by Miley

Cyrus. However I won’t be creating a music video

like hers.

Instead I want to create a music video very similar

to her other videos from the past.

Creating an innocent music video, linking to the

lyrics of the song, and making the song more

receivable.

DIRECTOR’S TIP.

Must remember reality while making

music video. Need to think what is actually

possible and what is not. If you have no

budget, don’t dream about making your

music video extreme, stick to simplicity,

but be clever about it.
