How did I decide on genre?

After working on my market research I realised that rock, pop and indie music were the most loved genre. I looked into what people like from a video and saw that they liked videos of the bands life, narrative and performance most. I then took this to the drawing board when looking at the codes and conventions of different music videos. This is where I realised the only two genres that combine performance and narrative, when being conversive, are rock and Indie. I then looked more closely into rock and indie, and discovered that it was indie that followed the bands life, showed a story line, and showed performance more often. I therefore decided this would be the best choice of genre.

Choice of song

I now had the difficult decision, I had got two brilliant songs, but only one video to make. After listening to both songs on repeat I decided to keep a pen in my hand and jot down ideas I’d have for each track. The difference in ideas was amazing; for the libertines all I could think was follow the band and then a live show, where as with Foster the people I could achieve all three. Foster the people also have a dance element which would allow me to use an artistic approach used commonly among pop/dance music. My choice was made.
