SawSaw – grossed $18.2million in its opening weekend and had become Lionsgate's second best opening. Saw went on to gross $103 million and is the second lowest grossing film in the series after Saw VI. At the time, it became the most profitable horror film after Scream.

What makes it so successful is how the sequels that follow became increasingly popular and the storyline did not fade.

Saw was voted by the Guinness Book of Records as the best horror franchise of all time.
