Evaluation Question 3:What kind of media
institution might distribute your media
product and why?
Our production company is called DIG Productions. It is most likely to
produce films in the genre of romance and teen movies. They are most likely to be ‘indie’ films for a target audience
of 15-25 aged females.
‘Absence’ is a dramatic romance and therefore would need a distribution company that
promotes this genre.. This is important as they would know how to market the product.
Focus Features is a perfect example of a distribution company that would distribute ‘Absence’. Focus Features is the art house films division of NBC Universal, it is not only a producer but a distributor.
Focus Features has produced many dramatic romances such
as: ‘One Day’, ‘Brokeback Mountain’, ‘Lost in Translation’
and ‘Pride and Prejudice’. Focus Features has a total
$1,269,056,759 box office income.
Another distributor of our genre would be Eone Momentum Pictures. They are the Uk’s leading independent motion picture distributor. They have distributed films such as ‘Dear John’ and ‘The rebound’. This again parallels our chosen genre.
Our movie firstly would have to be shown at a film festival such as The BFI London Film Festival. This showcases London made films in the hope that they will be scouted by film distributors and shown globally.
Hopefully this would be scouted by Studio Canal (formally known as Optimum Releasing) a London based distribution company that showcases extraordinary London pieces. They have regularly distributed films of our genre.
Studio Canal have a contract with Love Film. Love Film can be viewed online by thousands of monthly conscriptions. This would be extremely beneficial for our film as a exhibition platform. This could also broaden our target audience of 15-25 aged females, as Love Film has a universal audience.
Studio Canal have produced films such as ‘Broken Circle Breakdown’ and ‘Cracks’ which follow the conventions of dramatic romance. Therefore this would be the most prominent example of a distributor for ‘Absence’.
