KIDVISION PUTS HURRICANE SAFETY TIPS INTO THE PALM OF KIDS’ HANDS

iPod Spots That Children & Parents Can Download

Miami - July 26, 2006 -- As another active hurricane season looms in South Florida, KidVision offers a way to put hurricane safety tips right into kids’ hands. KidVision Lessons Just For Kids is a WPBT Channel 2 podcast destination providing quick, engaging spots that kids and their parents can download onto a handheld iPod via iTunes or watch directly on their home computers by either visiting www.channel2.org or going to their iTunes desktop file.

In short streaming vignettes, young children are taught what to do when the power goes out, some fun indoor activities and safe places to be during a storm. Peter the Pelican, a friendly, animated character, interacts with young actors to help deliver messages in a fun, easy-to-understand manner.

These 30 to 90-second videos come from a series of on-going learning spots which air daily during Channel 2’s KidVision programming. Other on-air spots include, “Protecting the Planet,” providing eco-friendly lessons in recycling and saving water, trees, and electricity; “Happy to Help,” demonstrating ways to care about and help others; and “Being a Buddy,” messages on cooperation and socialization. More spots in rotation cover nutrition, media literacy, and the importance of staying fit.

Podcasting is part of WPBT’s continued effort to broaden the boundaries of providing educational content on demand to more South Florida families. Visit the Channel 2 website at www.channel2.org, scroll to the Podcasting section, and select KidVision Lessons Just for Kids.
