DECEMBER! F R G N E W S L E T T E R! 2011

Although it’s not always obvious, the TF Wolfpack FRG was busy again this past month working in the background to

make things happen for the unit.

We started December with a trip to Give to the Troops in Greenville, NC to pick up donations that we could use for

the 413 stockings that are going over to our deployed troopers.

With goods in hand, we got right to work stuffing and packing the stockings to make it into a military shipment that

is targeted to arrive in time for Christmas.

Mid-month Karen Foshee got us squared away on our health and fitness

goals with an awesome class held at the Army Wellness Center.

And then was organizing the Holiday Party for December. That committee of 2 has been coordinating efforts

between Rear D, MWR and Brigade to try to make it a fun evening for everyone.

Thank you all for all you do! Your

support of the unit is truly appreciated!!

It’s been a busy month...

VOLUNTEERS HARD AT WORK STUFFING STOCKINGS TO SEND OVER TO OUR DEPLOYED TROOPERS.

THE KIDS CAME OUT TO “HELP” TOO!

STUFFING THE 413 STOCKINGS WAS MADE POSSIBLE WITH THANKS TO THE DONATIONS THAT ARE RECEIVED BY GIVE TO THE TROOPS AND GIVEN TO UNITS AT FT. BRAGG.

MORE IMPORTANTLY WERE THE DONATIONS FROM FAMILIES AND FRIENDS OF TF WOLFPACK WHO COMMITTED THEIR OWN PERSONAL DOLLARS TO TRY TO MAKE THE HOLIDAY AWAY MUCH LESS DIFFICULT. WITHOUT YOU, WE COULD NOT HAVE MADE THIS HAPPEN.

Happy Holidays From Your FRSA!

This month’s FRSA Finds features my

Education class scheduled for DecembeR 15th, at our battalion

classroom. Many spouses have a deep

interest in furthering their education and this class will assist them with all

the information pertaining to financial aid, grants, loans, and various schools

they can attend online or the

traditional way.

You will also find in my following

pages a hometown recipe that’s been in my family for years as well as a 30

minute recipe. Celebrate the holidays

with a nice caramel pecan apple pie! You will love the smell in your kitchen

as well as the taste in your mouth!

Speaking of pies, on November 9th

we had Pies for Patriots where we

had apple and pumpkin pies delivered

to us and spouses and soldiers came and got some just in time for the

holidays.

I’ve worked hard in completing all of

the rosters. Now that everything is

updated, we will start doing call outs over the next few weeks.

We will be hosting our annual holiday party on December 9th. Our very

own SSG Brinkerhoff will be Santa

Claus and he will also have some soldiers as his elves. SPC Baker and

SPC Harkness worked hard in building from scratch the Santa chair.

You can see those pictures here!

30 MINUTE RECIPE

Chicken in a pot…..no pie! This is an easy recipe that only takes 25minutes to cook. It’s actually one of my favorites. Enjoy!

Ingredients:

• 1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil, 1 turn of the pan

• 2 tablespoons butter, cut into pieces• 2 starchy potatoes, skin left on and

diced (recommended: Idaho)• 1 medium onion, chopped• 2 ribs celery with leafy green tops,

finely chopped• 2 carrots, peeled and diced • 1 bay leaf, fresh or dried• Salt and pepper• 1 teaspoon poultry seasoning• 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour• 1 cup dry white wine, eyeball it• 5 cups chicken stock• 1 1/2 pounds chicken tenders, chopped• 1 small bunch pencil asparagus,

trimmed of woody ends and cut into 2-inch pieces

• 1 cup frozen peas, a couple of handfuls• 2 to 3 tablespoons fresh tarragon, 4 to

5 sprigs, chopped

Directions:

Heat a large, deep skillet or a medium soup pot over medium high heat.

Add extra-virgin olive oil and butter.

Melt butter into oil then add the potatoes, onions, celery and carrots, adding them to the pot as you chop them.

Add bay leaf and season veggies with salt, pepper and poultry seasoning, cook 5 to 6 minutes to soften them a bit.

Add flour and cook another minute then whisk in wine and cook off a minute more.

Add stock and put a lid on the pan or pot and raise heat to bring to a quick boil.

Slide in chicken and cook 5 minutes.

Stir in asparagus and cook 3 minutes more.

Turn off heat and add the peas and tarragon.Stir to combine and adjust salt and pepper, to your taste.

Ladle into bowls and serve with crusty bread for mopping.

HOMETOWN RECIPE

Dr. Mary E. Walker is the only woman in the United States history to receive the Medal of Honor. She became one of

the first women physicians in the country in 1855. At the outbreak of war in 1861, Dr. Walker was denied a commission as an Army surgeon

because of her gender. She served as an unpaid volunteer in Washington, in various military camps, and in a hospital

for Indiana troops. She was instrumental in establishing an organization which aided needy women

who came to Washington to visit wounded relatives. She served as a field surgeon on a volunteer basis,

rendering assistance at tent hospitals in Virginia. She was eventually appointed as an assistant surgeon and assigned to

the 52d Ohio Regiment. With immense courage and bravery rarely matched, Dr. Walker demonstrated her dedication to the American cause at

great personal risk. She consistently discounted personal injuries and great hardships to care for others. She was

captured and held a prisoner of war for four months before being freed in a prisoner exchange. Through her

actions, Dr. Mary E. Walker set the standards for helping to improve soldiers’ quality of life for generations.

The Dr. Mary E. Walker Award was

presented to Mrs. Angela Myers as an outstanding military spouse for demonstrating dedicated and

exemplary volunteerism, that improved the quality of life for soldiers and their families.

C.J. Musson has been a fixture as a Wolfpack Volunteer for a good long while. We have been so lucky to

have her on our team, and especially as an FRG Leader for Echo Company.

After a lot of thought and

consideration, C.J. has decided to step down as an FRG Leader and dedicate herself to her other

volunteer positions both in the unit and on Ft. Bragg.

With luck on our side, C.J. is staying

with us as a spouse in the Redhawks; A-Co 2/82. Her spouse moved to that unit to serve as a door gunner just prior to the

deployment. I know that they are thrilled to have such a dedicated volunteer join their ranks.

Thank you for all your time and tireless dedication!! We

greatly appreciate you!

HEADING INTO THE HOLIDAYS. . .

This holiday season, don't grant your kids' wishes for

the newest, coolest toys until you know they're safe.

With new product recalls almost daily, trouble with

lead-tainted toys from China and studies showing that

certain chemicals may be harmful to children,

choosing safe and healthy toys can be a daunting task.

So www.gifts.com is here to help you stay vigilant about

toy safety. Before you buy, double check that the toy

you're considering meets safe shopping guidelines...
