Conventions of Hip-Hop Music Videos

Within conventional hip hop music videos, it is usually the case that women are represented as being worthless and are mirrored as quite sexual and promiscuous, dancing women wearing short dresses etc are usually used and the artist will move from women to women within seconds of the song, again showing that women are irrelevant.

A popular aspect used in hip-hop videos is the use of a crowd dancing to the beat of the music, this implies that the audience shown are dancing to that particular song and that they enjoy the song. This gives creditability to the artist as it implies that their song is popular and well liked.

Clothing

Typical clothing in a hip hop video tends to be, basketball shirts that are too big, this is in order to make the artist out to be a sports person. This signifies strength and shows that the artist is a physical person. E.g in the music video ‘In da Club’;

• Within hip-hop videos there is also a large reference to wealth and this is shown through many different aspects, for example, it is often shown through jewellery and gold, money, cars and even clothing or houses that the artist is surrounded by. This is another aspect that signifies status and how important the artist is.
