Concept art drawings

In this presentation, I will be explaining drawings from my concept art.

Environment

This is a image of a farm house in the countryside where the main protagonist grew up.

I chose to draw this particular setting as it relates to the characters background in the game and because the story is mainly based on his struggle I think its important to use this image as it would be used in the beginning of the game.

Here I have drawn a picture of a destroyed church in the city.

I decided to create this image because I think it would give the gamer the impression of a such a worshipped, powerful and religious monument to be destroyed. This is because it shows how destructive and powerful the infection is and how it has taken its toll on the environment. This also makes the game even more gritty and dark as it takes away hope for human survival which is the main theme of the game and gives them nothing to strive towards.

Weapons

This is my first design idea for a weapon to be used my the character in my game idea which is a double barrelled shotgun. I chose this particular gun because it is a well known gun used in the horror/zombie genre such as the film franchise ‘Evil Dead’ and many others including games. This connotes to the horror genre as this weapon is widely known to be cool and fun to use in games. This gun is a well known zombie killer and would gain a lot of attention from the audience.

These weapons are my second idea for a main weapon that the character would use. They revolve around the same style of my first design with added features such as a scope or a shorter barrel gun (sawn off).

I think it is important to use a shotgun in this particular game as they would be expected by gamers to be included in the game style.

Here are some other design ideas that are optional choices.

Character

This is a rough design of what my character would look like.

I have chosen clothes such as shirt and tie with casual trousers to show he’s just an average working class person. I did this so the user can relate to this character and for the game to be more realistic to them.

I have also given the character a leather jacket to give the impression that there could be a darker side to this character and show he may have the will power to survive.

Here I have experimented with the characters appearance. On the left is a similar design to the first one.

However, the second design on the right shows a more broken and rugged look of the character.

I have done this to show that as the user progresses through the game the character becomes more worn without the daily resources that are needed such as clothing and food. I did this by making his clothes look torn and giving him a beard. This would be effective because it shows what is happening to the characters throughout the game.
