Analysis of ‘Love the way you lie’.

This print screen image shows the lyrics, ‘I’m going to tie her to the bed and set this house on fire’, showing that relationship between lyrics and visuals are at this part of the video as he has flames around him.

As the beat of the song changes, the scene cuts with it showing the relationship between music and visual; as this is done the actress in the video, Megan Fox is also burning as the lyric states.

One of the intertextual references that come with this music video is the actress Megan Fox, who at the current time was in the new Transformers film, allowing more advertisement of her being around in the media, she is almost being a platform for the film, while featuring in the music video.

Another relationship between music and visual is when the artist, Rihanna is singing in front of fire saying, ‘Just gunna stand there and watch me burn’.

Another relationship between lyrics and visual is used, ‘where you going? I’m leaving you’, this is actually mouthed by the characters in the music video. Overall, the audience are able to see that there is a strong relationship between lyrics and visual in this music video.

This close up below shows the emphasise on her emotions and her expressions to him. This shows to the audience the turning point of the music video and song itself.

Genre Characteristics.I felt the genre characteristics were being used in both of these clips of this page. The print screen above shows a high angle shot of the man being topless and having many tattoos, stereotypical for someone who has the same ideology of someone who likes rap and rock.

In this shot below it shows the character now taking alcohol from a shop and using the girl as a distraction. This could represent the characteristics of the genre as people associated with rap are seen as people who don’t care about taking risks and being very anti-social, which could be shown in the videos lyrics, for example swearing.

The sunlight: The sunlight in this music video is always used in each shot of them in the house with the curtains drawn a small fraction allowing light to get in. Maybe connoting that one of the characters feels trapped.

The tracking shot across the body which is on fire shows the reference to the notion of looking/voyeurism, as the audience are able to feel as if they are slowly watching the body burn in the flames.

The camera glare on the shot may link back to the idea of the sun being blocked from in the house, and now the music artist Eminem is now blocking the sun behind his back creating a glare of the camera.
