› When we say “ Native Ethernet “ , we mean that source of traffic is
Packets like in data network and there is no conversion between PDH
and Ethernet
› Microwave links should be hybrid links to configure native Ethernet
› Hybrid Microwave handles packets and TDM natively (without mapping
onto another protocol), transporting multimedia traffic efficiently and
allowing operators to launch data services cost-effectively without
impacting traditional TDM services.

Requirements to interface with Ericsson nodes
› LCT software was installed on your laptop as user interface
( You should use latest release )
› Physical cable for connection
( LAN or Mini-USB cable )
› Authorized Account for Access
user name : control_user
password : ericsson

How to configure Native Ethernet on Ericsson AMM
Ethernet Configuration can be created using one of following
connections :
1- Layer 1 connection
• It connects WAN and LAN interfaces through Layer 1
• It don’t use Ethernet switch ports for connections
• There is no VLAN creation
• It transmits any packet regardless its VLAN ID
Ahmed Mohamed Hassaan | Ericsson Internal | Dec-2013 | Page 5
How to configure Native Ethernet on Ericsson AMM
2- Layer 2 connection
• It use Ethernet switch ports for connections of WAN and LAN interfaces
• There is a VLAN creation
• We connect WAN and LAN interfaces via VLANs
• We can control transmission of packets according to its VLAN

How to configure Native Ethernet on Ericsson AMM
› We will focus on Ethernet configuration using Layer 2 connection
› Layer 2 Connection procedures :
1. Check on packet link capacity in radio link configuration
2. Create new WAN interface for packet link
3. Configure switch mode for Ethernet switch
4. Assign switch port for each LAN or WAN port
5. Configure port role for all assigned switch ports
6. Finally , Create new VLAN then add assigned switch ports
7. Review your configurations using overview windows of Ethernet

How to configure Native Ethernet on Ericsson AMM Procedure # 1 :
› To start your configurations , you should check that there are a packet
link capacity ≥ 2Mb/s on MW link configuration
Ahmed Mohamed Hassaan | Ericsson Internal | Dec-2013 | Page 8
How to configure Native Ethernet on Ericsson AMM Procedure # 2 :
› Create WAN for available packet link capacity using one from RL-IMEs
existing in NPU slot
› Drag and drop packet link from available packet links box to assigned
packet links box

How to configure Native Ethernet on Ericsson AMM
› After saving last configuration , WAN is created and displayed in WAN
interfaces in drop menu of Ethernet in management tree

› Following tables show Capacities of RL-IMEs for different types NPU
cards
Table 1 : Capacity of RL-IMEs for NPU3 B and NPU3 C
RL-IME Number Number of RL-IMEs
Number of Packet Links
per RL-IME
RL-IME Capacity

How to configure Native Ethernet on Ericsson AMM Procedure # 3 :
› Configure switch mode for Ethernet switch to be “ Customer mode
(802.1Q) “ .
Ahmed Mohamed Hassaan | Ericsson Internal | Dec-2013 | Page 12
How to configure Native Ethernet on Ericsson AMM Procedure # 4 :
› Assign switch port number to LAN and WAN ports which need to be
connected via VLAN then switch their Admin Status to be “ Up “

How to configure Native Ethernet on Ericsson AMM Procedure # 5 :
› Configure port role for each switch port was assigned to WAN or LAN
› For WAN interface , port role will be “ I-NNI “
Ahmed Mohamed Hassaan | Ericsson Internal | Dec-2013 | Page 14
How to configure Native Ethernet on Ericsson AMM
› For LAN interface , port role will be “ UNI “
Ahmed Mohamed Hassaan | Ericsson Internal | Dec-2013 | Page 15
How to configure Native Ethernet on Ericsson AMM Procedure # 6 :
› Create New VLAN which has planned VLAN ID number and VLAN
name
› Add switch ports which assigned and configured for LAN and WAN
ports to Ports/member field
› Configure Unregistered Multicast to be “ Filter “
› Don’t modify or add any port to Default VLAN
Ahmed Mohamed Hassaan | Ericsson Internal | Dec-2013 | Page 16
How to configure Native Ethernet on Ericsson AMM Tagged and Untagged LAN ports
› LAN port can be configured to be tagged or untagged port according to
customer request
› If LAN port will be untagged port
1. Check on configurations of switch port assigned to this LAN port
2. Add switch port to Ports / Untagged in VLAN configurations
Ahmed Mohamed Hassaan | Ericsson Internal | Dec-2013 | Page 17
How to configure Native Ethernet on Ericsson AMM Tagged and Untagged LAN ports
› If LAN port will be tagged port
– Simply don’t add its switch port to Ports/Untagged

How to configure Native Ethernet on Ericsson CN210
› Ericsson CN210 supports only one MW link on its indoor equipment
› So it has only one WAN interface and it don’t need to be created as in
case of TN using RL-IME
› You can complete Ethernet configurations starting from configure
Ethernet switch ( Procedure # 3)

Expected problems appear after configuration
1- WAN operational status is down :
• Check on Admin status of WAN , it should be up
• Check on packet link capacity , it should be ≥ 2Mbit/s
• MW link should be up (i.e. Near End site and Far End site are connected )
• WAN interface in other site was created
• Packet link capacities must be matched in both sites of MW link
Ahmed Mohamed Hassaan | Ericsson Internal | Dec-2013 | Page 21
Expected problems appear after configuration
2- LAN operational Status is down :
• Check on Admin status of LAN , it should be up
• Check on physical connection between two LAN ports ( LAN cable has 2 RJ-45
connectors) and two connectors should be installed as straight or crossover
standards
• If LAN still down you can change speed of this port from “ Auto “ to “ Full duplex 1000
Mbit/s “ and check again on status
Ahmed Mohamed Hassaan | Ericsson Internal | Dec-2013 | Page 22
Expected problems appear after configuration
3- WAN or LAN ports can’t transmit or receive packets :
• Check on status of all ports participate in connection from source ( RNC ) to
destination ( Node B ) . If there is disconnected port in path , other ports will have
this problem
• Review your configurations on all nodes participate in this connection VLAN ID and Name should be matched in all nodes for this VLAN
VLAN in each node should include all switch ports assigned to WAN and LAN planned for this connection
Each switch port configured with right port role according to its connectivity ( WAN or LAN )
Admin Status and operational status of all ports are “ UP “
