1 Differentiate the types of Optical Networks.

There are mainly 3 types of optical networks:

1. The first one would be the opaque in which the regeneration and treatmentof the optical signal is accomplished in the electronic domain.

2. The second one is a transition into the third. The translucent opticalnetwork tries to accomplish only the necessary optical to electronic con-version and/or regeneration in order to minimize the costs and maximizethe speed of the flux in the network.

3. The third and most probable future of the optical networks is the transpa-rent optical network. Here, the network has no opto-electronic conversion,i.e., the network is fully optical, thus the speed of the ongoing flux is ma-ximized.

2 Why are Translucent Optical Networks theWay Forward?

Translucent Optical Networks are a mean of optimization of the more commonOpaque Optical Network in which, through clever Opaque Node or OXC Rege-nerators placement, one tries to minimize the costs and maximize the speed ofthe traffic flux.

3 Which of the 3 types of Translucent Networksis the best?

The OXC Nodes Network is the most optimal since there will be an adequatenumber of regenerators at each node. But it might be extremely complicated tosolve in complex networks. So in some cases the Transparent Island or SparselyOpaque Nodes Placement might be an easier and simpler solution.

Resposta direta ao ponto, gostaria que ela tivesse sido mais elaborada, mas,dada a formulacao da pergunta, ela esta certa. (Houve um erro de digitacao naexplicacao das redes translucidas, a conversao, e regeneracao em geral, e feitapara o meio eletrico e nao no optico.)
