To anyone who's played the Halo games, Cortana needs no introduction: she's an advanced artificial intelligence and Master Chief's only real friend.

Cortana is currently the code name for a whole new way of controlling Windows Phone, and in the longer term maybe Windows too.

Bing SmartSearch features are incorporated into Cortana

Featurs of cotana

• Cortana's features include being able to set reminders

• Cortana recognize natural voice without the user having to input a predefined series of commands, and answer questions using information from Bing (like current weather and traffic conditions, sports scores, and biographies)

• Windows 8.1's universal Bing SmartSearch features are incorporated into Cortana, which replaces the previous Bing Search app which is activated when a user presses the "Search" button on their device.

Notebook

• The "Notebook" is where personal information such as interests, location data, reminders, and contacts will be stored for access by Cortana.

• Cortana will be able to draw upon and add to this data in order to learn the user's specific patterns and behaviors.

• The user will be able to view this information, with the aim of offering greater control over privacy settings by allowing them to specify what information is collected, "a level of control that goes beyond comparable assistants".

• Users can also delete information from the "Notebook" if they deem it undesirable for Cortana to know.

HISTORY BEHIND CORTANA !

Cortana is a fictional artificially intelligent (AI) character in the Halo video game series. 

The origin of Cortana is not explained in the video games, but in the Halo novels. Her first chronological appearance in the story is in Halo: The Fall of Reach, a 2001 prequel to the first Halo game.

Cortana is constructed from the cloned brain of Dr. Catherine Elizabeth Halsey, the creator of the SPARTAN Project.

According to the Halo novels, Cortana is classified as a "smart" AI, meaning that her creative matrix is allowed to expand, in contrast to the limited matrix of other "dumb" AI characters in the stories.

• It is based on a 26th-century artificially intelligent character in the Halo video game series

• Cortana will debut as part of Windows Phone 8.1, the next big update for Microsoft’s mobile operating system.

Cortana is positioned as a personal digital assistant that helps you organize your day-to-day activities, alongside regular web searches for information.

Cortana will allow Windows Phone users to set how they want to be addressed by the voice-activated assistant.

Cortana can call users by their name or nicknames like "Master Chief" after the function is enabled in the settings.

A key part of Cortana is its ability to save information and data in a

Notebook system.

Notebook will allow the Cortana digital assistant to access information such as location data, behaviours, personal information, reminders, and contact information

Cortana can also track flights or other mentions in emails, allowing it to generate notifications similar to Google Now.

• Cortana correctly predicted the winners of the first 14 matches of the 2014 FIFA World Cup knockout stage, including the semi-finals, before it incorrectly picked Brazil over the Netherlands in the third place play-off match
