HISTORY English inventors in 18th century began to automate textile cottage industry processes including carding, spinning and weaving.James Hargreaves developed the Spinning Jenny, a device which replaced 8 hand weavers in one operationIn 1972, Samuel Slater opened a Yarn Spinning Mill in Pawtucket In early 1800’s cotton was raised in the southern united states and exported to mills in England and NorthIn 1990’s a new world order began to replace, buying from the low cost producer drove many textile manufacturers out of the production side

TEXTILE?Textile -A textile is a flexible material consisting of an network of natural or artificial fibers often referred to as thread or yarn.

 Yarn is produced by spinning raw wool fibers, flax, cotton, or other material on a spinning wheel to produce long strands.

•Textiles are formed by weaving, knitting, crocheting, knotting or pressing fibers together
